All this talk of fuel tanks . . .

Hey everyone,

Threads about rotted fuel tanks seem to regularly pop up on these forums . . .

Someone I know is an awesome fabricator, and he suggested the idea to me some time ago about making new fuel tanks in aluminum. He seemed pretty eager to do it, but due to time constraints at the time we talked, he said some time in the not too distant future would be better. Knowing what some of the vendors charge for the regular old steel tanks, he figured he could offer them at a competitive price in aluminum, to the degree where it would still be worth it even with the cost of shipping them across the Atlantic.

I haven't discussed it with him recently, but he brings it up every now and then when we talk. I can use the tanks from my white S1 for patterns as they are somewhat accessible right now (all the wood decking, glass, etc., are out). If any of you are interested in new tanks in aluminum (remember that the exchange rate works to your favor!), I can have another talk with him and see if he is ready to do it.

Any takers?

- T

Tony K. :)

Possibly. The problem with shipping them over to the UK is the import duty (+5% I think) and VAT (+17.5%). Shipping would also be expensive even using surface (6 weeks or so) rather than air. I was quoted about

Your fabricator pal might like to look at these and see if he can replicate them, I'm sure he could.

Point is this chap sells them in the UK but at the current exchange rates might not be worthwhile for an American to buy them.

Worth a look though

Depends on price tony but yes i might be interested in a pair.

My tanks have had a threaded coupling welded on to the outputs so that Aeroquip braded hoses fit directly onto the tanks.

If i had new ones fabricated then i would want them built with the coupling fitted.

If a few of us were then perhaps the way to do it would be to import a batch into the uk and then split and distribute internaly ?

This is off-topic Gordon, but can you talk me through that coupling on your fuel tanks? I'm about to embark on fitting my new tanks and that sounds like the kind of mod I need to make..
