Gear change cables

Recommended Posts

Anyone know how difficult it is to replace the gearchange cables on a S4s

Got a broken one, luckily it snapped while I was getting the car Motd, so it's still there at the moment. :)

In the absence of anybody who's actually done it, I'll give the small amount of info I have.

My TE has the later cable selection, the pepole / person that combined the vehicle routed the cables via the void under the rhs fuel tank, I guess this is the norm to enable the cables to get round the bulk that is the engine without being too kinked.

They seem to come through the body work usinga big rubber gasget. I would think that somehow linking the old and new ones together should allow the new ones to be pulled into place quite easily. The cables can be moved relaitvely easily when I was getting the gearchange meachanism out of the sub frame to work on it, so i assume there's nothing too mch stopping them simply being pulled out.

I would suggest, putting a rose joint on the gear change end if you have one around, put the new cable through it, use a hose clip to secure the 2 together (gear change end does a /\/ sort of double bend so hopefully goes through the rose joint hole), then finally tape over the joint with duct tape to stop it getting caught as it's pulled through.
