I did it!

I called a few automotive glass companies today and requested a quote to remove my new windscreen because I've decided on a complete rebuild. One guy actually laughed at me and told me to go to walmart and buy a ball bad because it was the only way to remove the windshield. He said because it is an esprit and a somewhat flat piece of glass that it wouldn't come out without breaking.

After work I used a utility knife (and three blades) and worked my way around until it was completed through. Never trust anyone that says it is impossible because it isn't if you just take your time!

Hey Dodgy.. It is a turbo and it died on me on Easter Sunday this year at a red light while people were telling me what a great car I had : ( It turns out that the fuel distributor was bad and the wiring harness had fried in several spots (thankfully no fire). I own an upholstery shop so I'm redoing that myself with tan leather and black alcantara. I'm going to resto-mod it with the V8 update kit and larger wheels and tires. I live near "tail of the dragon" here in Tennessee and there's lots of Lotus owners who run the course. I'll be posting lots of pics now that it's up on blocks and being disassembled.

  • 1 month later...

John,

Congrats on the windshield removal. Just be sure to store it right. I spent

hours removing the one from my ferrari 308gtb (also bonded in) I stored it

face down on a bed of bubble wrap. A month later I discovered it had cracked

from end to the other. I should have stored it setting upright resting on the

bottom edge. 308 windshields are as expensive as esprit's
