talon
OK, I need to get a scanner for the Esprit. I've seen plenty of threads about folks on the right side of the pond are using, but what are the options available over here in the states? I would like to avoid having one shipped overseas... joeyoesprit
I purchased a Innova 3110 CANOBD2 off of eaby for under $75. Works ok but sometimes it takes a couple of tries to link up and to erase the codes. fmxa
I researched this a while back, and this is the same product I decided on (just never got around to buying it!). The web site is a mess, but I hear the product is solid. Recommend you just drop him an email with what you're looking for. [quote name='G Quote Paddle Faster, I hear Banjos! Gold FFM Günter Posted December 17, 2007 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 17, 2007 Joey: have you set all connection options in your full options interface?(as this would clear the connection time problems, it needs time to switch between all protocol, ...and CAN also) . I guess if you chose only ISO 9141 it can be faster... . Paul: try to get in contact with the German version of the offer. It is more well organized (as typical for Germans ... ) , and Mr.M Quote ********************************************************************* to name the things if I see them, that's what I call integrity.. *********************************************************************

act2007
Russ, One of my friend is an '00 V8 owner & actually helped with the www.obd-2.com lotus portion of software...please see below for the detail info in an email he sent me: The OBDII software is made by Car Codes. I helped design the Lotus enhanced data portion of the software. I have no interest in the company just wanted a decent scanner to be able to read all the enhanced Lotus data. The timing of the OBDII interface on the Lotus is very fast and most software based timing systems won't work with the Lotus. Car Codes has a special cable (Tricom) which has a hardware timing unit in it and it works in conjunction with a PC. I use it with my laptop. Go to http://www.obd-2.com/ and purchase the Tricom version for $182.00 it comes with the "smart cable". The manual SUCKS. If you buy it you can call me and I'll give you some pointers and a short manual I wrote. If you would like his contact information please send me an email at [email protected] Alan
Gold FFM Günter Posted December 29, 2007 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 29, 2007 thats all what i said, CarCode is a possible way. It is the US based source of the *VehicleExplorer* software. It's maybe not the best but it works with a Esprit V8 engine. If you choose only one optional reader protocol or the handheld PDA versions the cost can differ from Alan's posting. The bad thing is the actual available TricomInterface is not prepared to get in contact with the Airbag-system (the workshop book refers to a connection between OBD and SIR-system ALDL in the front compartment). So you can only read engine data, read/delete DTcodes and you can plot all stuff in realtime graphics or onscreen instrumentation Quote ********************************************************************* to name the things if I see them, that's what I call integrity.. *********************************************************************
toyroom
I have tried a few including Autoxray and Gendan. Marvellous products, wonderful technical support and aftersales. Useless for my car ('97 UK V8) I think that the Esprit is so idiosyncratic that almost every car built was a prototype and hence, make sure that if you buy one of these things, there is an option for a refund if it doesn't work. These things are like parachutes, unless they ALWAYS work they are no use as the one time your engine light comes on a thousand miles from the nearest dealer, it has got to work or it's no use! On the other hand, I have used laptop software that works very well. (Proscan was one). As far as I know, most factors concerning the V8 will be similar in Europe and the USA. My car has all kinds of California reqirements stuck in the engine bay and things like an EGR valve despite being a UK 1997 car. I suppose that when you only build 300 cars a year, you can't afford to make several versions for different markets and so if you can, you only make one car that satisfies all regions. Obviously this isn't true of all factors, but a California Esprit and a European LHD Esprit will be likely to have more in common than the equivalent Range Rovers for example. This was true of the Bertoe/Fiat X1/9 for the same reasons.

It's well sorted, and even better to read... Thanks for creating and assist Wayne, i have used the software so often (as i work on my car with no knowledge so often..) that the [220Euros Tricom/Trican] investment from year 2003 is amortised several times now... . talon
OK, I have my new cabl in hand, but since I don't have a serial port on my laptop I ordered the USB-->serial adapter from OBD2.com. It's looking for a driver and none was include with the package. Does anybody know where I can find it? Google isn't helping and I'm in the garage all ready to go... EDIT Never mind - found it. Helps when you read the directions... Edited January 9, 2008 by talon
