I would be very careful getting the liners re-plated with nikasil.

Only do this if you absolutely have no choice! Do not do it just because you are in there.

I noticed a few very light scratches on my liners during my engine rebuild.

I had already had to have the pistons ceramic coated on the crowns due to Simple Green cleaner stripping the chrome off of the MAHLE pistons.

So I decided to have the liners re-plated.

Bad move.

The forgings from MAHLE aren't perfect, and while they might have been plated fine the first time, it is possible that the forging has a thin skin that can be removed during the re-plating process, exposing internal voids in the forging.

In my case these voids wouldn't plate properly and I am left with pin holes in one cylinder.

I bought a whole new set, maybe the last from Lotus, I do not know if there are any more.
