Gold FFM Sparky Posted January 4, 2008 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 4, 2008 My Esprit is poorly (needs a header tank) and I've tried to contact SJ Sportscars via email and telephone all this week, to no avail. Does anyone know if they've been open yet this year? I'm starting to suffer dreadful withdrawal symptoms. They're quoting the tank at Quote British Fart to Florida, Nude to New York, Dunce to Denmark, Numpty to Newfoundland. And Shitfaced Silly Sod to Sweden. Atle
I had a very unfavourable and surprisingly negative reply from SJ a few weeks ago, on a simple inquiery. Everyone can have a bad day, myself included. Still I try to keep up appearances towards my valuable customers. Gold FFM Sparky Posted January 4, 2008 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 4, 2008 Thanks - I'll give Allisport a go tomorrow. Not sure if it's weldable Dave - a runoff pipe (only about 6mm dia) is split where it joins the neck of the tank, and it's all in a pretty weak state. Since I had nothing to lose, I did a running repair with liquid metal, but it gave out in minutes. Hmmmm - SJ not a good bet then, it appears... davegtst
Try roughing up the tank first with some course sandpaper the thry chemical metal. I use it alot for work and it will only work on a smooth surface if you rough it up first.

Simon350S
Only used SJs once and he was very rude to me on the phone even though I was spending money... Will only use him again in desparation... Southwest all the way..... Until Troys empire is up and running properly for parts then it'll be him.... Gold FFM Sparky Posted January 5, 2008 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 5, 2008 Blimey! A catalogue from SJ came with my Esprit and I was quite impressed. Put together a fair shopping list in anticipation of being able to get through to them. There's a fair few negatives about them here though. Any recent good experiences with them? On a bright note, superdave may have a result for me - just waiting to hear... Quote British Fart to Florida, Nude to New York, Dunce to Denmark, Numpty to Newfoundland. andydclements
I've used SJ several times, for parts. All parts have arrived promptly (unless I was told they were out of stock when I called), except one minor incident, I wanted a 2nd gear synchro for the Renault box, he was adamant he could get it to me in a few days, I cancelled the order for the transmission specialists who had called as they had a 14 day wait c/o Renault to get one, then Steve called back saying it was going to be over 10 days. That part was approx
Gold FFM scott Posted January 5, 2008 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 5, 2008 I've always used Steve on my own car, and it was him I used to do the resto on Jeff's S1; his knowlege is unreal - I remember I had a noise from the bulkhead on my old JPS, called him and from a loose description, he offered a diagnosis, and a remedy - simple advice that worked; problem sorted straight away. I had an isue with my S1 when I bought it. Car was recovered there, and I could have spent a small fortune all at once, but after a conversation Steve designed repairs around a useabilty / budget that suited at the time. My car's been back ever since ( and has run totally on song ever since. ) I liked his flexibility, which is why it was him I chose to do the spannerwork on Jeff's car - we needed to acheive a particular standard and a finish not overdone, but as it would have been when it left Hethel new in '76. He was happy to deliver which some restoration companys are not willing to budge on their interpretation of standards or price. They are a small outfit that are unreally busy.... Surprised at the negatives, but perhaps he suffers from Seasonal Affliction Disorder ! It 'aint too good in Lotus land in the wind / rain / minus whatever - I can assure you! Suffering a bit myself! Always found that a freindly email gets the best service - he can answer back in his own time..........keep trying . Cheers, Scott @ Bell & Colvill. greenman
I have bought from SJ on two ocassions, firstly I ordered a braided clutch hose which arrived promptly and I was happy with my purchase. Then I ordered a s/s sport exhaust ,and had to wait while it was made (no problem). I asked him to make sure it was well protected when shipped, only to find on receipt there were 5 dents on the silencer. Contacted him straight away to state my dissatification with it. His comment was "You`d better send it back then, I dont know what I will do with it ". Made contact with the firm that delivered it only to be told that they could not collect from me as I didn`t have an account with them. I should not have had to have done this anyway, the onus was on him to have sorted it. As a result I decided to make do with it ,but decided I would not buy from SJ again Trevor

Gold FFM mayevora Posted January 5, 2008 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 5, 2008 Haven't used Steve at SJ for some time. However, have only ever had really good work done by them and can't fault in any way. Only real reason I have had work done elsewhere is because of the timeslots available if you want work doing. Because SJ do a good job at a good cost they are always booked up months in advance. No point phoneing up wanting a 'C' if you want it done in under a couple of months. Knowledge from Steve will be hard to beat and parts always readily available (in my experience) Quote Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk - that will teach us to keep mouth shut!
