v8 steel backbone rust proof?

Apologies if I am being stupid, but are the v8 steel backbones prone to rust or does Lotus coat the steel in someway?

What would the life expectancy be of a Lotus v8 before major chassie work would be needed. Obviously the body would be fine because its glass fibre...

It's galvanised. You need to have a read here:

We've not heard of any chassis problems from S2.2 onwards (introduced at this model) which is 25 years now! So you should be fine with the V8's chassis. What you need to watch for is every screw, nut and bolt rusting like mad!
