talon
Anybody have a line on where I can get a service (shop) manual for the V8? I'd also like to lay hands on the owners manual if anybody has any hints on where to find one of those?
neal
Lotus sell them. If you want the full set there's: 1. General manual for the V8 (essential) 2. Parts list (it's on LEW though) 3. Engine management supplement 4. Brakes supplement 5. V8 engine supplement (I think, don't have it) Quote May: DON'T hit it with a hammer! Clarkson: Why? May: Cause it's the tool of a pikey. matk
Guys Please keep in mind that LEF have a close reciprocal relationship with the factory and do not condone or support links to non official versions of Factory documentation. Manuals are readily available direct from Lotus or via official Lotus dealers. Alternatively they can be obtained from the Club LEW website which will require a small fee to join. Either of these routes support the factory and our community in the correct fashion. Quote Regards Mat

Just playing devils advocate, so please don't take this the wrong way..... why is there a parts alternative section on the forum if we do not condone or support links to non official versions of factory documantation. A part sourced from ford but sold by lotus and then the original part number sourced so it can be got from anybody else but lotus is a non official form of factory documentation, is it not? A simple thing like dening somebody a link to find a CD of a parts maunal is being a bit petty when we are sourcing alternatives lotus parts and advertising what the alternative is. I may be wrong but thats how it seems.
matk
Absolutely no probs you making the point and asking the question, that's what we're here for, to discuss things. I accept your point is valid, however from the mods perspective the difference is that there is no copyright on parts we fit on our cars. We own the car and we can put whatever we want on it, whether it comes from Hethel or wherever. We have a choice and we can exercise it freely without breaking the law. The difference with manuals is they contain intellectual property from Lotus and are subject to copyright. People who recreate them on CDs via eBay or post them on websites are actually breaking the law. This Forum has therefore always taken the stance not to support the production or distribution of this material unless through official sources. Several of the manuals are available on Lotus Esprit World, but this has been officially agreed between Kato and Lotus. As I said previously we also have a very close relationshiop with Hethel. If you search threads you will find countless examples of the factory doing us favours and providing parts at special discount prices to help members out. The latest was the thread about watches where I personally obtained the last one out of the factory at a discounted price, which I have absolutely no doubt was due to the relationship between LEF and Hethel. Personally I could never support anything that had a risk of souring this relationship. Quote Regards Mat

Copyright..... didn't croos my mind........but very true, everything copyrighted these day is copied though.........hmm point taken. I too have had support from Hethel, but one could argue that they should provide some form of technical support because if it wasn't for the home mechanic lotus cars wouldn't afford the contunity of service they have had up to now. I think we are sailing close to the bone with the alternative section though even though it is useful. In this instance and with such close ties to Lotus you are right in your statement. Was good for the debate though......
Bibs
There are 4 guys employed by Lotus specifically and only for technical support to owners of cars no longer in production. They are all excellent too. Call them on 01953 608000 and ask for Technical or email [email protected], they will astound you with their dedication to their job and knowledge of all things Lotus. WRT the manuals, Lotus pursue the people who sell the CD copies illegally, LEF has helped once or twice with this. They are copyrighted and as such legally they can't be copied and sold on without recourse as the law is on their side. There is plenty of it about however. You only have to visit Ebay to see how much........ some one is on there right now selling cd's for 49p. Like I said before, I was playing devils advocate................................... It raised a good debate though
Gold FFM Günter Posted January 13, 2008 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 13, 2008 what is with the Workshop books sold in Germany !? Paper copy [A4] in green Book-Cover. I think the Lotus-parts and book shop is well known and the Team Lotus Historic runs in the same races with the owner over the last years .... . looks as if not all Persons are equal as some are more equal in Lotus eyes ? What is the background of that?
