pink wire confusion??

I was trying to sort a recurring eratic temp gauge problem when I found a pair of pink wires with connectors attached going nowhere. They were sprouting from the loom that sits beside the fuse box and relay set....they seem to be the only pink pair....any Esprit auto-sparks in here able to tell me what they are for??

Thanks.....

Quite possibly nowhere :-)

The UK cars had a lot of the equipment only essential to meet US regs (emissions, etc.) removed to save money leaving lots of dangling wires and pipes which go no where. Nice to see they had their profit vs planet priorities right :-) The final piece of the jigsaw is different versions of the ECM for US and non-US cars. Needless to say the latter was hacked to remove a lot of the tests!

Your pink pair (whatever they may be :-) sound like they could fall into this category. Placing connectors on the end effectively insulates each wire...

May: DON'T hit it with a hammer!

Clarkson: Why?

May: Cause it's the tool of a pikey.

Thanks for that...You are probably right.

...anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram anyway??

Cheers,

Chris.

The service notes have all the wiring diagrams but only show the complete (i.e. US) version. You could still use them to find out what these pink wires are supposed to be connected to and based on that whether it would likely be missing on a UK car.

But the way the notes are organised, knowing that the wires come from the front loom doesn't help much. You'd have to look through all the diagrams, a bit of a needle in haystack.

It'd be *much* easier to get a UK V8 owner have a look at their car to see if their wiring (of lack thereof) is the same. I'd offer but mine is still at Lotus. It's due back any time and I'll certainly oblige then. But I wouldn't hold my breath - it's been due back any time since July...
