Braided brake lines and windscreen replacement...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My car is in the shop again for more work and while it is there I want to replace the brake lines with braided hoses.

Does anyone know the technical specs of these or is there a kit out there for a reasonable price?

I also need to replace the windscreen which has cracked from the lower corner on the passenger side. It was replace a while back by monkeys who didn't use the Lotus fitting kit. I am not sure if I trust anyone other than the factory to do this properly now but thought I would see if anyone has any recommendations?

cheers

-Chris

I've taken out and had my windscreen replaced (while doing a respray, and jobs on the interior)..

In fact the same screen has been in and out twice now.

It doesn't need any specialised skills, and as far as windscreens go, they're fairly standard to fit and remove.

Just avoid some of the dodgy garages, and people who turn up chewing gum thinking they know all their is to know about the Esprit because their mates sisters boyfriend had one.

Fit the later style trims though (they were in the parts sale, very cheap, and Lotus seem to have thousands of them).

As long as the screen is bonded properly and in the correct location, it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks Glyn,

This may be a dumb question but should I buy the fitting kit from Lotus or should I expect a windscreen fitting company to carry these or order them when they get a screen?

cheers

You just need a screen which the windscreen supplier should be able to source.. or get one from Lotus.

And the window trims. They are in two parts. (6 bits in total). They are a carrier that goes under the glass, and an outer trim that clips into it.

They are cheaper from Lotus probably. There really were tonnes in the part sell off. If you find the link for the parts listing, you should be able to get them.

I'm sure they were only a few

If your screen has only recently been done, you can possibly save the old ones anyway, as I managed to with mine. You'll just need some more double sided tape to put them back in.

(all becomes obvious when you actually come to do the job!)

You are probably right if the Monkeys had used the proper surround etc. It is no big surprise that it has cracked and I was going to get it re-fitted anyway.

Many thanks for your help I will check out the sale and get ordering. :)

cheers

On the braided brake line issue I have not been able to find any refernces for hoses to fit post '92 Esprits. I have checked the Goodridge application guide (http://www.goodridge.net/uk/pdf/automotive/Goodridge_full_car_app_uk.pdf) but it onlylists 3 different Esprit models up to 1992.

Does anyone have braided hoses fitted to a V8?

Where did you get tehm from, was it an off the shelf item or made to measure?

Thanks

-Chris
