a car that may affect my decision of an Esprit

damn..this car is fun...not to mention it is a convertible

althought it cannot do 0-100km/h in 4.3seconds, but still fast enough (mid 6secs) for HK roads...

I love the open top, and the dash is so smoothly aligned...

the 6speed gearbox is great, and the leather seat wrapping around the body...I just don't want to get out of it...

and it is a chick magnet...in here :)

anyone ever drove a Z4 here??

what's your comments?

They do look nice imo but I'd certainly not put it in the same game, ball park or anything else as the Esprit :)

Z4 = common as muck

Esprit = Lucky to see one - ever!

Speed, Esprit = faster.

Handling, Esprit = better (not to suggest the Z4 is bad but they're chalk and cheese)

Styling - I'm not keen on the Z4 at all but if THAT turns heads over there... Just imagine what an Esprit will do?! :)

They're sooo common over here that someone just plonked one outside my house - on my paved area, which is only reserved for the Red One. Had to get it towed away and crushed. :)

Honestly it's a nice car. Easy to drive, smooth lines on the inside, A1 reliability.

My old mans going to buy one - He's fast approaching 70 - and as a result I'll only ever see this car now as a pensioner mobile.

Guest esprit geoff

when my wife was looking for a new car, the Z4 was on the list, we test drove the 3.0l, it was fun, handled nicely etc. But in the end after trying alot of different stuff she decided on the XKR, which is far luxurious and more comfortable and faster.

In my opinion the Z4 is NO comparison to the Esprit, the Z4, aint a supercar!!! If you want something so compact but less practical, then go for the Elise, which is far superior to the Z4. The Z4 is comparable to the Boxster.

So good luck with your decision.

Geoff.

seems like we're losing a lot of potential esprit drivers to the bmw roadsters. i'm saddened but not insulted. it's infinitely worse when people come on here and ask questions like "which is better? an esprit or a honda nsx?" i hope such people never even stand near an esprit, as they obviously have no style sense, and would cheapen the image our cars currently have.

:) Simon I used to enjoy Wayne's quick delivery of photos and laconic humour. With him gone you're now nominated to take on that role. Keep them coming.

I posted somewhere else about them

Exceptional ride... Exceptional smoothness... Exceptionally boring :) No convertibles. Buy a real man's car! :)

Nice interior though.

It's not a chick magnet. It's a chick car

+1 teigan. why are we losing people to BMW roadsters?

where did we go wrong? should we tell prospective owners to visit pistonheads?

Let them go ahead and buy their Clarkson-approved dream machines. :) You never hear anyone saying 'Oh Wow look at that Z4!' or 'bl<>dy hell I think that was a Porsche Boxster that just went past!'.

When most people see an Esprit:

1) They've no idea what it actually is.

2) They fall unbelieveably in love with the styling - even if they're not natural wedge lovers.

3) If they realise it's a Lotus, they're still not sure what model.. 'Is that a new one that's just come out?' - I've had thrown my way.

4) They think you're some sort of millionaire - because the exotic styling is surely Ferrari price league, etc.

And finally: a standard spec Sport 350 can give a modern day Carrera Turbo a run for its money! Nevermind an M3, and as for Z4s - they eat them for breakfast! Usually as a side-order... :)

don't get me wrong.

I know Esprit is a Supercar (Exotric sportscar) and Z4 is just a regular commuter.

what really affects my decision is the convertible feature...(which Esprit has no convertible model)

another problem I have to consider is there is no qualified workshop that knows how to work on an Esprit..(which is why I cannot find an Esprit with good condition)

just sad here....

I actually went home and turned on my PS2 to play GT4 (test out the Z4 and the Esprit V8)

even in the game (not to mention my real life experience in the real world)

both cars are really different in handling...

the only car that I know to match the Esprit handling is the Lambos.....(I have 2 friends that own Lambos...really making me jealous...)

well, my plan to make the purchase is Jan 2006, so I still have few months to get ready.

other note: damn Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S...there are many 2003 models showing up in the 2nd hand market, my VW Beetle value just crashing!! damn!

If that's a major consideration, but you still want an Esprit style of car, what sort of NSX would you buy around the same price? Not a bad drive at all and there'd have to be more Honda specialists than Lotus there. You'll love the engine note as it moves into the higher revs. Also there's also a targa version with a lift out roof that is cleverly stored bringing it closer to a convertible than the Esprit is with its roof off.

no..I do not want a NSX after I test driven a Lotus Esprit....

and also (facts about HK)

99% of the NSX in HK is automatic...(now WTF wants an automatic sportscar?? only HK people would do this)

**also why the tiptronic, or steptronic...BMW/Porsche and the latest auto/F1 gearbox Ferrari/Lambo are so good selling in HK now...because they want automatic!!

and the remaining 1% of NSX with manual transmission are abused...

and most of them had add so many aftermarket parts, the car's original characteristic is all goine to history (not to mention how the engines were abused....)

so no...to NSX..

I will still try to find a good Lotus....and probably pay extra in service by going to Lotus dealer only.....(which also distribute Lambos.....but their labour cost is ridiculously high)

Z4 is a lovely looking car imo. If I wasn't a complete Lotus case I'd be looking at one of these or an S2000 - yet to drive either but I'll get around to it one weekend when I have no work on the Esprit to do and pop by the local dealer for a test flight. Everyone I know who has driven / owns one love the car.

Cars are different things to different people, just because it can't perform like a supercar doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

In the seventeen years i have spent in construction,

Every architect, designer, project manager, site agent,

QS, Consultant, Clerk of works etc etc... that has ever

pi55ed me off...

Every 4sshole that has carved me up on the way to and

from work, butted their way into queues they have jumped,

and forced their way into traffic...

the people i have held in the least esteem and hold

the least respect for...

...have by a large percentage been at the wheel of a BMW.

I have friends that have owned Beemers and i'm not saying

for one minute they do not make good cars. But i will gladly

(in fact i'll make a point to) live my life out and die without

owning, or being seen behind the wheel of a BMW. To me they

are a ****s chariot, and my skin crawls at the idea of having

the badge dangling from my keys.

So my vote goes with the Esprit!

(less you had not guessed  )

Well good luck with the search esprithk! It's a very fair point, buying an esprit MEANS you'll def have to find a decent servicer in Hong Kong, and I'm sure there MUST be one somewhere, but it may take a bit of finding... but if you manage it it will be WELL worth it!

If you have to go for a BMW, see if you can find a Z1 - here in Britain some are getting as low as

does that bmw theory work in regards to women drivers too?

i've found the least courteous drivers are the ones in the acura/lexus/infinity cars; yes they are entirely interchangable. the ones blatantly out to inconvenience you, even at their own inconvenience are the honda drivers. not sure if my dislike of those cars is partially due to their drivers.

I think women are good drivers.

:lol::lol::lol:

I used to think that but then 11 years ago I passed my driving test and encountered them on the road. ;)

Male drivers can be arrogant, the majority of women drivers have no idea what is going on around them though. They may not be involved in as many accidents as Men but they cause a lot more ........ and drive on blissfully unaware of what they have done.

that's an interesting morality question.  if the rudeness is unintentional, is it more excusable?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I won't let a BMW pull into traffic. And to make sure there is no confusion

over rudeness/ animosity, i always make eye contact as i pass them by.

If they get in behind me, i fill the boredom by repeatedly washing my screen

(until their wipers stop) and then doing it again, etc etc. Take the shine off 'em!

I'd let the Esprit out though, every time!

:angry::lol::lol::lol:

if you try doing that to a honda. the driver would nearly side swipe your car determined to get in,and you'd be forced to swerve and brake to avoid him. the honda driver would then be very pleased with himself thinking he out accelerated a lotus.
