First Day New Job - General Chat - The Lotus Forums Jump to content

Recommended Posts

Well, it's the first day of my new job and I'm sitting in my new office (revamped study). Just set up my new printer, scanner, photocopier and fax, new laptop is up and running, new Passat Sport sits in the driveway and I'm about to make my first works call on my Voice over IP telephone.

I have a new phone (I hate this bloody Blackberry) and a nice cuppa tea....I've posted on LEF and I'm off.........

Oh yes, I can ellaborate a little. The company I work for is LCVR Ltd (www.lcvr.co.uk) and we are a Purchasing organisation for our licensee base of rental companies. My job is to set up supply plans with dealers for various makes and manufacturers, all supported in various ways by the manufacturer. Today I am on Peugeot and Honda and we are looking at 100 cars minimum. Overall we will be buying circa 3000 this year.

We also have a new venture coming up which is a short term business lease to companies. It will be competitive with normal 3 year contract hire and lease but with certain benefits. firstly you get to change your car every 6 months, secondly you don't have to stick with the same car/make, thirdly because you change the car so often you don't have any repair or servicing costs. It's called Flex Fleet and will be up and running soon!

Good stuff, chap. Hope it all goes well - probably would be better if you stopped faffing about on the 'net and did some work, though! :D

I would stay away from those 'ondas, there used to be a bloke on ere trying to flog em all the time, but he's gone off to another firm now...

good luck, Tony

Good luck Mr Kimberley, I am sure you will breeze it (they are brand new cars you buy, arn't they? - its just you don't have the best of luck when buying second hand :D) remember to always do a brake test!!!

Sounds like a nice little job - buying cars all day, what could be better than that? Of yes and then bloody e-mailing people like me with spam :Pc:

Best of luck with it buddy - hope this job won't interfere with your poker and LEF addictions!

Sounds good then... except for the Blackberry. I rather dislike cell phones period. I hope the rest of the month goes well! You could always use it for an escort service front! Need a "lady friend"?... get a car...

I hate the first day on a new job, not that I've changed jobs very often. It's like the first day at a new school. Being introduced to a ton of people and remembering nobody's name at the end of it. Still you've got that done and all your stuff sorted. Now you can dive in and get into the thick of it.

With switching from selling cars to buying cars does that make you poacher turned gamekeeper or the other way around?

Good luck in your new role.

Wow it's harder than I thought working from home! Having Wendy keep walking in, kids going to school, etc. After 2 days I've realised I need to motivate myself so from now on I need it to feel like work so am going to dress in a suit, do my hair in business tony rather than relaxed Tony, cuppa tea, switch on computer and..........look at LEF...NOW it feels like work!

Oh God....now I've got an image.....

Looking forward to lightening up a bit but I need a routine to do my best work. That routine normally includes feet up on deskk, tea in hand and phone against ear for 10 hours. Just finished that today and it was most satisfying! :D

When I used to work from home, one of the best bits was not having to put a suit and tie on every day - its actually never anymore thank goodness, - weddings and funerals only from now on.

Enjoy the new role mate.

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk - that will teach us to keep mouth shut!

To be honest, the only time I've been dressed up recently is when I wear my kilt. Weddings and funerals. As some of you know, I was just over in the UK for a funeral - The first time I've worn my kilt on Scottish soil in almost 15 years.
