Thank you for your enquiry regarding your 2003 Lotus Esprit V8 SE and please find enclosed your Certificate of Provenance. These documents provide the detail from the original build records when the car left the factory, held against the VIN supplied, they do not cover any changes made since leaving production and are not verification of the cars condition.

The VIN supplied for your Lotus Esprit was SCCDA08283HC10521 which can be broken down into the manufacturer identifier code (SCC=UK manufacturer, Lotus Cars Ltd.), the engine type (D=918, 3.5 litre V8 twin turbo), the restraint system (A=3 point seat belts), the vehicle type (082=Esprit Turbo), the check digit (8), the model year (3=2003), the assembly plant (H=Hethel, UK), the market the chassis is made for (C=RHD), the Esprit model (1=Esprit V8), and the serial number (0521). The original engine number was LL918 0301 31113 which can be broken down into the market the engine is destined for (L=USA/EEC/Japan), the engine equipment (L=manual with A/C & PAS), the engine type (918=Lotus 3.5 litre V8 turbocharged), the engine build date (0301=2003, January), and the engine serial number (31113). The gearbox number was 1528.

The car was painted in Ruby Red metallic, Lotus paint code B23. The interior was trimmed in magnolia leather, with beech (honey) carpet and magnolia leather headlining. Optional extras were; metallic paint. The car was signed from the production line on the 24th February 2003. The original selling dealer was Stratton Motor Company Ltd. in Long Stratton, Norfolk here in the UK who carried out the P.D.I. on the 17th March 2003 and sold the car on the 21st March 2003 to a customer in Maidenhead, Berkshire. The car was then sold on again by Stratton Motor Company on the 9th October 2003 to a customer in Rickworth, Sleaford. This is where the records at Lotus end.

The 2003 model year Esprit ran from serial number 0459 (October 2002) to 0580 (October 2003) and covers all Esprit V8 variants, worldwide, with the ‘Final Edition’ models from serial number 0543 (June 2003) but these were mainly for the USA market. There were a total of 122 2003 model year Esprit V8 cars, 89 of them for the USA market, and just 18 for the UK market, with Europe and Japan exports taking up the remainder. The following is based on serial number sequence and data available to date for the 2003 model year only;

Your car is the 63rd out of 122 cars (worldwide),

Your car is the last out of 2 cars in Ruby Red (your car and 1 for USA),

Your car is the 16th out of 18 cars for the UK,

There was no Ruby Red Esprit for the 2004 model year, making your car the last Esprit in Ruby Red (note there are some Bordeaux Red Esprit after your car which is a similar colour). Your car was one of the last 6 (UK) cars sold, and the hand over event was shown on the local BBC news “Look East”.

These cars can be seen featuring the same centre exhaust as fitted to the USA cars at this time, which differs from the previous year which had a different rear valance and twin outboard exhausts.

I managed to get the chassis SCC082918THA15120 and engine number LL918960529354, fist registered June '96, for the V8 register, according to my calculations, this would make this a very early car, within the first 20 production V8's off the line.

I have a 1982  Dry Sump Turbo Esprit

VIN: SCC082910CHG10437      Engine Number: CD910820520287

It is Calypso Red (A25) and has tan upholstery. It is fitted with 3 piece/5 stud BBS wheels, possibly aftermarket.

It was Registered in Hong Kong (12/07/82) and imported into Australia in 2003. It still has the Hong Kong plates (DD 6768). As far as I know, it has never been registered in Australia.

I have a friend here in Adelaide with another Dry Sump in Black. I will see if he wants to share the details.

I just purchased vin SCCFC20B4PHF60227.  It's a 1993 Esprit SE, calypso red, tan interior.  I am also ordering the provenance letter from the archive.  I'll update as I learn more.  It is being shipped now and will be garaged in Franklin, TN.

Notes; One of two in silver with red/grey interior that was also specified with a Lotus branded radio cassette [still looking for one 😅]. Marked "458G.7" inside front compartment under nose badge. Painted white circa 1986 and briefly wore two broad red stripes down it's flanks thereafter. Interior re-trimmed in blue cloth presumed at same time. Initial owners all in the Lancashire/Manchester/Liverpool area of the UK. Currently [2018] in Ireland under full restoration, detailed in SOUP Classic Motoring web series.

May be old news but I was talking to UK Sports Cars (Canterbury) and they told me the Esprit Sport 350 No 009 they have for sale is being exported to Australia (probably on the boat now).
