Back on the Road - Restoration finished

Recommended Posts

Hello everbody,

I am proud to tell that I have finished the restoration works of my Lotus Esprit S1

just in time with the shooting for the new James Bond Movie "Quantum of Solace" in Austria.

As an extra in this movie I needed a staff car to come to the set. :)

And because the Aston Martin wasn't submersible the chances for my Lotus to appear in this

film raise and raise .... :unsure:

Regrettably I will be the only one of us two who will be on the screen in November, but my

Lotus had it's own show. :whistle:

The daily newspaper (VN), the "Blick" from Switzerland , television stations from Austria (ORF)

and Germany (RTL and SWF3) reported from Bond and my Lotus Esprit.

Here you'll find some pictures and links - best regards Gernot

Looks great, but somebody will soon comment re pic size (and yes the work did justify high res pics).

Are you not better off with a standard (I assume it would be standard to have the external duct and air box) air filter set-up to get cooler air for more power?

Gernot

Good job, well done :) It's nice to hear of somebody actually finishing a restoration instead of starting one!! As you know I'm a long way off finishing mine but this could be the kick up the :whistle: I need to get back out there and work on mine.

And don't those wheel caps look good hahaha

Well done again.

Regards, Paul.

P.S. What did you do with the interior - is it tartan/orange/green?

Nice pics Gurnot. Well done on the finished project.

Pity its only you, as the extra in the film though. :devil:

Many thanks for your replies.

Because I was on a business trip I was not able to answer you sooner.

@andydclements

Yes you're right, the original airfilter would be better for more power, but I think

the one I use looks better. Perhaps when the engine gets dirty I will change the

airfilter back to original and use the engine-coverage.

@Paul Coleman

Hello Paul,

of course the most beautiful parts of the car are those wheel caps :P

About the interior - I kept the "black-leather-interior", just needed to change

some parts, most of it was in very good condition.

@Scott

Since I saw the pics of your yellow one you have always been the benchmark for me :)

@ALL

Again I want to thank you all.

I already had some nice days with the car and many bondgirls B) :clap:

Wouldn't it have been a fantastic nod of approval to have the Esprit in the background of the new film?? However they are obsessed with the Connery/Aston era at the moment and I can't see anything changing for a while.

...and the new films have gone all "serious" ....:clap:

Have you added up all the bills yet and do you know how much it has cost you? I am interested because I am at the start of my restoration so I'm wondering what I've let myself in for!! If you'd rather not say I understand - just tell me to mind my own business, that's fine :D

Regards, Paul.

Hi Gernot

Okay thanks. Out of interest what did you do with your fuel tanks? Did you replace them or keep the originals?

Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul,

I made myself new aluminium-tanks, it was not easy to get them tight :(
