Stop driving the car, you're risking head gasket failure amongst other things.

There's a chance that the rubber diaphragm is your wastegate has split causing the wastegate to stop working correctly. Remove it, check it and if necessary buy a new one, I believe that Paul Mattys has them in stock.

On the subject of taking the wastegate off, my advice would be to cut or split the nuts off rather than spanner it. After years of heat cycling the studs on mine had become quite brittle and snapped off in the manifold. It then becomes a very difficult job!

To check/replace the diapfragm you can remove the 4 bolts that attach the bottom aluminium casting. (leaving the main housing and valve attached the the auxiliary manifold). You stand a fighting chance of removing these without them shearing. use penetrating oil. I'm doing the same job at the mo.

Good luck with the wastegate...I have lain under the beast wearing full protective gear (leather flying helmet and goggles and oxygen mask!) to keep the swarf off me whilst drilling out the studs in the manifold...then tapping the resulting holes...the wastegate itself has had several iterations of holes drilled for the assembly bolts...I'm on my 3rd diaphragm in 20 years of ownership. All part of the fun...

Early wastegate adjustment is by different thickness spacers fitted during the assembly..if you have all the bits in the right order it should be OK. Bigsi has posted definitive pictures of the wastegate, so that should be your first point of reference. On the positive side, lower boost pressures will increase engine longevity!
