Congratulate me!

This is day number eight without a cigarette, after smoking all my adult life, and drinking most of it I gave up booze last year, and now finally cigarettes.

I want to get the Esprit re sprayed later this year without delving into capitol, so I gave up cigarettes to save up for it. I estimate the car will have paid for itself in 7 years! Oh, and I'm bloody proud of myself.

Bloody good for you mate! What's the secret? I've been trying to kick it for years. Currently looking at the 'Price Of Fuel' method - smoke, or drive the Esprit...

Great stuff. It will be the best thing you ever do. I stopped five years ago and just felt better and better as more distance was put between the non smoking and smoking days.

I found Allen Carr's Easy Way helpful.

Motivation is number one, I've never had a good reason before, second, get all the help you can I consulted my doctor, and used a prescribed drug called Champix, followed the instructions to the letter and time table, gritted my teeth and hung on, I'm still hanging on but I've reached the stage now where I'm so proud of myself I couldn't let myself down by going back to it.

But it's hard, bloody hard, but the re-spray will make it worthwhile!

WELL DONE ROGER!

Please, please, please take my advice - never, ever, ever have another one! I gave up for a year, then ironically when the smoking ban came in, started again!?!

I was in a night club with a friend of mine and as we were in there on our own and he is a smoker, we kept popping into the smoking area, now i felt a bit stupid in there and not smoking so i thought go on then just the one!

IT IS NEVER JUST THE ONE! Once you have broken the seal you will be buying them again in no time!

GOOD LUCK ROGER! STAY WITH IT!

Just think how much sooner that re-spray would be paid for if yuo were in the UK, with our taxes on cigarettes.

Well done mate, beating that addiction is hard to do, and the first few days can be really hard, not only on you, it's hard on those around you.

Stick with it Roger! I think I saw a show once that showed a graph of the change in your life expectancy based on not smoking. It was like years added for months stopped, so in real terms, a lot more years to drive the soon to be resprayed esprit. B)

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Well done Rog. Mind over matter. When you get bored / stressed do something else instead.

Been in the same situation. 20 a day for 15 years, then one day walked up 3 flights of stair and was out of breath and thought , hmm . . . that's bad. So decided to stop and haven't smoked since 1997 :(.

Congratualtions Roger and all the above who gave up.

Never been a smoker but can imagine how hard it is to give up. We call them ugly sticks down here as everything about them makes you ugly inside and out - fact!! They even advertise peoples rotten teeth on the outside a cigi carton - yuck!

Theres nothing glamorous about smoking sorry!

Well done mate :(

Best thing you will ever do. I smoked for just over ten years, that equates just under a third of my life.

Have given up for seven years now, and count smoking as the single most stupid thing i have ever done.

I wish the whole smoking in public ban had been about then, as it would have made my life so much

easier, (not surrounded by the smoking 'hardcore' trying to tempt you back). Nowadays smokers are

forced out into the street, outside of the office gate, and in the rain. From an outsiders point of view

now, i look at those still smoking and what they have to accept to continue, and it really does make

smoking look like such a losers pursuit. I could have done with it having that kind of 'thicko' image

when i was trying to give up.

I still cough.

I'd like to go back to that young Paul C heavy metal kid, about to puff his first fag, and punch him in the face...

At UK prices, haven't actually bought any for about 2 years (thats the good news)

The bad news - mate from the states keeps visiting the UK and leaving 3 X 200 cartons each visit, about 3/4 times per year - got a bloomin cubord full at the moment and don't smoke them fast enough. I'm one of those people that can go for days, even the odd week with none, then go out for a bit of socialising and binge smoke 20-30 no problem.

I do still enjoy a smoke and have no problem with the public smokeing bans. Quite happy to go outside.

However - well done Roger.

Congratulations ... I gave up before by going to hypnotherapy. It worked like a charm until I got into a car crash ... copper coming one way, another guy the other, me getting out the car a little shaken and they both offered me one ... took both and chained them and started again!!

Personally I am in a strange situation. I usually smoke 20 or so a day, but can quite happily go without them for 3 or 4 days until I wind up in a shop ... then I buy and smoke again ... the odd thing, I don't have a single craving or frustrating episode without them ... my problem is simply that if I see them on sale I buy them.

Congrats though, mate.

Seriously though, well done to those that have quit. I managed it for a few weeks before and I don't remember it being quite as hard as this. Day 2 and I'm already a miserable cow :(

I'm just looking forward to the wonderful holiday we'll be able to afford this time next year

I never have smoked...my brother recently gave up when the surgeon doing his triple bypass said he'd be meat if he continued. Best not to get to that point, I reckon...stick at it; live longer and spend more money on the other addiction..the four wheeled one!!
