I noticed some water dripping on the passanger side and a bit on the driver side with the AC going full tilt. Any suggestions on where this is coming from ???

Good news is the ECU is trained again!!! Idles well with AC on and off....

AC does this.. it's as the warm air condenses on the evaporator, it releases liquid trapped in the air which collects as water on the cooler.

On the Esprit, it'll run onto the undertray, and out from either side.

You'll probably notice it worse on a humid day when your AC is on full wack.

I understand this...but the water I am refering to is inside the car!

does it have a heater matrix or evaporator in the dash? or a cooling pipe could be condensation on a cooling pipe or a leaking matrix.

Hi Paul,

There is an AC pipe in the footwell. This pipe usually is insulated with black tar-like stuff that should prevent condensation in this location. Please have a look. Maybe the insulation on your car is not proper any more ...

Cheers

mine does this too. I pulled all the black tar paper off to get a good look at it - sure enough - it is simply condensation forming on the cold metal pipes.

So if I reapply this tar paper - that will keep the air off the pipes and therefore the condensation?

Dear Paul

I remember reading another thread on thissue some time back. The air con matrix is situated deep inside the dash, that in turn is in a plastic casing which is tilted. As a consquence the condensate drain outlet is more or level with the join in the casing which has had only minimal calking applied to the joint. Any distortion in the joint of plastic casing can result in condensate leaking into the footwells.

For more info suggest you back track on earlier threads on this issue as I remember there was one which also had pictures of the enormous task which could ensue.

Hope I've remembered all this correctly

Regards

Just took my air con condenser out of mine last night.. hasn't been used for about 10 years, and saved me 3kg in weight!

My air con was already U/S when I got the car.

There is a drain on the bottom of the heater box, which goes into a tube out of the car. I suppose it's possible if this drain tube is blocked somehow it would leak water into the car.

Sorry Paul, I didn't realise you were dripping water inside

The air con on my BMW M3 smells like the mens toilet in a backstreet Glasgow pub when it's first turned on... I need to get some of that stuff that you put in the car and then set the A/C to re circ while this tin gases off slowly.

Works everytime! well, for about 8 or 9 months. :)

My last M3 was exactly the same!

If you drive on left! there is a thing called a TX valve, convinently position right behind the glove box, this is where all the black tar type stuff is insulating it, for all the above reasons, I might be tempted to pull the glove box liner out to get to it, might be easier than the lotus position. Our air con specialist did mine, I got told not to bring the !!**kin thing back again!
