Carb strip problems

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all.

Am stripping down my carbs to clean and overhaul and have hit a stumbling block.

Do you know how to remove the float assembly so I can renew the needle valve and gasket? Am stumped.

just tap the float pivot pin out using a very small drift ( i usually use a small spring dowel pin)

A word of warning. Two words to be honest. TAP GENTLY!

The pillars holding the pivot pin are prone to breaking off. The pin should come out easily but support the pillars as best as you can when you try to get the pin out. Several members have suffered for not doing so.

Ditto what Trevor said. Be careful. When I took mine apart, one of thepegs was broken and a piece of wire had been wrapped around the pin and the remaining support - PO's, honestly!!

Tap it FROM the side with the slot.. the pin is a loose fit in the hole in the solid pillar, and is gripped by the smaller hole in the slotted side..the slot enables it to open up slightly to squeeze the pin and retain it. Once you have it clear of the slotted pillar it should come out easily. Trying to knock it all the way through the slotted pillar is a sure route to CRACK!! B*GGER!!

Hi

I did my Carbs when I rebuilt my HC engine last year, last two pages might be be of help as I photographed the whole rebuild. S3 Turbo HC Conversion

With ref to the pin, if you havn't already done it by now. I think I used a very fine screwdriver to open the gap in the bracket. doesn't need much pressure & the pin will drop out. This was the advice from one of the speacialists however as has been highlighted, you need to be careful you don't apply to much pressure here.
