Replacing Broken Front Suspension Spring....

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Can any one please tell me how I would go about replacing a broken front suspension spring. Is it a big operation?. Any pictures would be a great help, my car is the 88 Esprit.

Regards, Cathal. :animier:

How the *!*!* do you brake a spring? You'll need a spring compressor, not a hard job assuming no other damage?

The spring loading is so light it can be held in compression by three 1" nylon straps. We do it routinely as a lot of spring compressors do not fit the Esprit springs as they are fairly small.

We strap down the springs while still on the car and then remove them. You don't have to compress them too much to get the collar off.

I suppose you could remove the strut assembly and take it to a shop to mount the new spring.
