Excellent work. Can't wait to see the results!

One concern I have with this drive for uprated engines and gearboxes (I've just fitted the GTO 5 speed) is that we're going to start snapping driveshafts. Has anyone looked into strengthening these?

I spoke to Kevin about that, and he reckoned that the driveshafts are best left stock. The crown wheel and pinion itself is the next weakest link in the gearbox and I know which I

The phrase: perform some relief work to the block.

Is that a posh way of saying: "I fired up the angle grinder" ?!

did the piston that you have in the picture come with the ceramic coating or is that something that you had done after you recieved it. I purchased a set of JE pistons and mine didn't come with ceramic

The coatings were options offered by JAE at extra cost (an additional 530 USD). They use these folks for the work:

EMBEE Performance

The crown thermal barrier coating is EPC104 and the anti-friction is EPC107.

Coatings will certainly help in protecting the piston crown in high boost applications. There are other theoretical performance improvements, but I opted for them more to extend the life of the component than for anything else.

In an engine running standard boost, it is almost definately not worth it... in fact it is the same goes for forged pistons. Your money would be better spent elsewhere. imho standard cast pistons are fine for standard power.

Cheers,

Mike S

For those who are interested, here are some more mock-up images before the real build work starts.

Still require a bit of tidying up on the polish work, but it

November update:

We are finally back home in France and things are starting to settle down after the birth of Nathan.

Now the engine build (re-build of engine N2 LL918 0005 30668) can really progress - I

you lucky man! an garage full of clean and shiny engine parts :) , wish i could do a bit more now... .

2 weeks without any response from the e-bay seller 'automotiveparts-2008'. Seems there is no chance for me to get headgaskets for an reasonable price !?

:D Do you know who else had any of them (except for R&B, with its doubled price...) ??

Is it the price of today and does include post service !? ...as the Pound is low this time, and the 'official' 75 Pound (plus 6 pound for postal services) of this e-bay shop was an good offer :D

Mike----don't forget to take picture on the liner sealant installation. What brand of sealant

and how much do you apply.

Very nice job. Are you going to use a bigger turbo for the install?

i wondered why an e-bay shop can offer those for 75 Pounds, as R&B offers them for 214 Euros .... .

Have to ask my 'financial services department -you know it :D

(It's not out of mind for now !)

T3-T28?

So the turbine will be ported to T28 spec to fit a bigger blade.

The compressor T3 that I don't understand. Are you going for a hybrid compressor (T3 family)

If you are just porting the compressor (same housing) the turbo still a T25 family (only ported).

If you are going hybrid...why not use a T04B instead of T3?

No - it is a hybrid. Both the compressor housing and turbine housing are different to standard. The compressor is a T3 0.42a/r and the turbine is a T28 0.64a/r. The reason for not going any bigger on the compressor is:

1) there is only just sufficient space to fit a T3 housing compressor without needing to go to bespoke exhaust manifolds.

2) the T3 is man-enough for the desired output

Cheers,

Mike S
