Front suspension lower arms

Recommended Posts

Are these guys supposed to swing freely on the vertical when the mounting bolt is tightened up to the required torque setting. Having just dismantled the front suspension again I'm wondering if the reason my n/s wheel was scrubbing in the wheel arch was because I tightened the bolt with the spring slightly compressed when I last put it back together?! Both springs are exactly the same height off the car and no problem with scrubbing on the o/s.

I wouldn't say freely, move yes, but it should take a noticeable effort, and if you've got the rubber (metalastik) bushes it should be naturally sprung to return to the rest position.

Thanks Andy. As was, it would spring with the rubber twisting but wouldn't move up or down and stay in a different position. Where is it supposed to be at rest?
