Brake Master?

Recommended Posts

My brake pedal sinks after 15 seconds or so - guess it's time for a new cylinder/seals. I've searched the forum, but can't find any reference for the part. Was it particular to Lotus? It's a Bendix unit which my local supplier couldn't identify.

Vacuum's working, and initial brake effort is good. The fluid's definitely creeping past the seals. I'm sure this is a really common cylinder - would love to pick one up tomorrow!

It is more likely to be your brake master cylinder than your wheel cylinders

check begind the mounting on both insided and outside the car for seepage. My guess is the master cylinder as you do not have wheels cylinders, only disc brakes...

Oooh yeah, it's definitely internal seals in the master. I just need to know which master it is! Not sure if there's a yank scrappy nearby...

I did my internals last year and all i did was take it to the local brake recon place and they sold me a universal kit that sorted it no worries.

was about $30.00aud for the kit!

is only a few rubbers and a spring, so should not be too pricey, even over there...

Attached image file (not sure if suit you car or not)

I am looking at changing mine however my braking works but I think there is a slight vacuum leak. When you do yours perhaps I can pop over to you to help and then we do mine... :flower: then :respect:

That's a plan, Gav. Thanks for the links.

At last, our first Esprit working party! I'll be starting a shedload of work in a couple of weeks or so - let's get it organised.
