Just Aquried My V8 SE

I just bought my V8 and its perfect and everything and more than i expected and after six months of looking I am well chuffed however the only problem that I could find when I had the car checked over was a small oil leak on the N/S of the engine from around the Turbo on the way home this small leak turned into a small flow of oil the problem is corrosion to the main pressure feed pipe banjo union on the top of the turbo where a hole has appeared allowing pressue oil to flow out.

Congrats on the ownership, I would have thought that that part would be a Lotus part only. I would IMO get the original anyway to ensure proper fitting etc, there's enough things that can go wrong on the V8 without pattern parts failing or causing leaks etc.

What year and colour is your V8? Where are you located?

Congrats on your purchase. There aren't many true V8SEs about in the UK and we'd all love to see it.You really should get your car in the 'garage section' of this site.

I think that is in reference to the many "GT" spec cars that had spoilers, aircon and comfy seats fitted as factory options. I.e. they look like SE's but arent.

The "GT" is actually a rarer car, according to LEW a total production run of only 204, with only 89 currently on the road in the UK.

Yeah... it's a very contentious issue. And the confusion is made even worse by the fact Lotus built so many hybrids (V8GT/V8SE inbetween versions). There's a thread somewhere in the V8 technical room on exactly this issue.

The best way to tell what your V8 was 'born as' is to look on the quarter windows for the logo: if it looks like this:

then it's a GT

and if it look like this:

then it's an SE.

Quite frankly they shoulnd't have bothered with the two specs IMHO, in retrospect the two were so similar to each other they'd have been better off just naming them one or the other and putting in a rather expansive options list. (V8SEs were around

I also own a V 8 S E have done for 7 years 1999 ruby red [there can not be many as I have not seen one in that red] it started life with a LOTUS director . Peter northampton .
