Never knew this car existed here in Oz. Must have been someone's garage pet.

This advert is from several years ago and I believe the car was sold - I do not think that the advert is current.

As it says, this was a factory prepared GT300, but not one of the Le Mans cars.

The shots of the LM racers I have show the same grey chargecooler as the stock car - they were reportedly running 420-440 hp on qualifying, obviously less on race. I doubt that is on a stock turbo though, the boost would have been fairly high for that.

I'm off to Woolworths for some spray aerosols - LOVE the colour scheme, and I watched Ed China respray a Capri (badly) with DupliColor on TV last night...

Looks like the workshop of the Lotus specialist in Richmond, Melbourne. Can't recall his name. If it is he's never been open whenever I've been to Melbourne.

Hi all

Here are some shots from my old engine for you to see what a Esprit race engine looked like.

The engine was probably a earlier version of the factory X180R race car versions (Lotus project Nr P525), able to put out 420 HP and was one of 3 engines where 2 were raced in GT series Esprits.

It had a bucket size turbo on it, spooling up at around 4000 to 4500 rmp. ( not very pleasant to drive on a every day basis, but a must for the track as you are constantly in high revs )

The clutch was a 3 plate dry clutch which was very hard to drive.( 2cm from disengage to engage) Besides, due to the fact that it always sqeeked, I sounded like someone that just learned to drive to most of the pedestrians looking at me at the lights <_<

The wiring harness was totally different as well. Chip and ecu where able to control a 2 bar map sensor. I was driving it at up to 1.8 bar and the acceleration above 4500 was brutal, but also dangerous as one encountered the famous "turbo hole."

To me the 910 engine is actually able to generate over 400 HP. The question is for how long.

just thought you might to know

Cheers

Stefan

Interesting images.

Mike Haines had one of the spare S300 Le Mans engines about 7 years ago. The power figures were something like 440bhp with qualifying boost of 1.5 bar.

Oh... and you mean a 3 bar MAP sensor for boost pressure over 1 bar ; -)

Hi Mike

Yes, looking at it this way you are correct.

I had quite some talks with Steffen Brandt, on whether the indication on a map sensor refers to including or excluding the ambient pressure of 1 bar.

After I sold this engine to Garry Kemp he told me it is going to a US guy who eagerly waits for it after he had heard that Garry had one.

It was probably Mike Haines to use it as a donor for his other ones.

The Mike Haines engine was an original spare from Le Mans 1993. It was running a Motec M4 Pro ECU and ended up being installed in a UK based S300 somewhere.

He wanted 10K pounds for the engine and ECU back then, which was a pretty good price considering what was included.

I know this car. Yes it has been around a LONG TIME. Not sure if was sold last yeart when it was up for sale.

Dan, last I saw the car (about 6 mths ago) it was down in Abbotsford, at Team GP (which is now called something else). Paul is the owner of the garage. Not sure if he still has the car though.

Simon, if you want a bit more info, perhaps PM me - not sure I'd go near it.

Cheers

David

not sure I'd go near it.

I'm just a peasant on a weiner salary nowadays.

The car came up on an Oz Exotic forum and it took me by surprise - being Oz based.

was the weight really down to 1100 pounds???

No - that is a typo. The car was running in GT2, so the minimum weight was 1100Kg

That car is a mock anyway.

looks like a Sport300 ( if that ) with a cage and some fancy switches...

The lights in the front bumper are painted !!!!

No question it is good looking, but far from its resemblance.
