Does anyone elses doors do this ?

...the bloody doors off.

Got both of them off to look at the check straps and the bloody annoying rattle on the RHS door. Problem is my doors have always opened WAY too far and by adjusting them to their limit still open about 80 degrees. On one of the doors the problem was so bad the door itself has cracked !

1/2 tempted to take the brackets off and re-cut them to fit propperly - wondered if other users have had a similar problem with doors opening too wide ?

There should be brackets that bolt into little square blocks, these keep the door from opening too far. Your bolts might have broken, and the brackets are loose, which would explain the rattle.

unless you're tuned to radio 3, which has less structural integrity than the car.

Jonathon, I'd heard that the later cars had their doors so that they opened further than earlier cars so access was easier. Don't know how true this is but I did notice a difference between my S4s and my previous 1990 turbo.

My V8 opens quite wide much further than 60 degrees.

Also the S4 I sold recenlty had a few rattles in the door. It turned out to be the main frame against the beam inside the door bolt loose. Quite awkward to get to, I used a small socket set. Also the door card didn't have enough screws in it.

Thanks for the Replys.

Took the doors off over the past few days.

Both doors check straps were basically loose on the door fixing which was causing the problem, but when you move the bracket back it stops up agains the window frame bolt.

So I took them to work and cut them down 1/2" so they check the door sooner on the open stroke.

The drivers side strap had actually been sheered off !!!

I think the door was opened and a car has hit it at some point in it's life becuase of the force required to sheer 1/4" thick steel, there was a lot of fibreglass dust on the grease too - it's been repaired but not so well - the rattle was actually the sheered rivet inside the door beam rattling around !

The spring was also cracked, someone hated that door !

All welded, hammered and fixed and back in place now and limited to about 70 degrees which is much better :)
