Here's a start:

:respect:

Also, look at the paint code in the front compartment. It will be in the bottom left corner of the metal plate -- might be obscured if the spare is in place.

If your car is an orange gel coat car, it will have code S04.

The gel coat colors started with S:

S01 - white

S02 - signal red

S03 - yellow

S04 - orange

S05 - oxford blue

All Esprit paint codes:

But given your car's build month of November 1976, it is almost surely a gel coat car.

Why don't you try contacting the factory?

I got hold of someone at Lotus who looks after their archives (Chris Brown I think his name was???) and he emailed me the exact spec for my car - The day it rolled off the production line, paint colour, interior spec, optional extras fitted, when it was sold and by which dealer etc... You can also get a providence certificate for your car as well with all this info on a nice certificate :P

I thought it was rather nice of Lotus to take the time out to reply - Don't think you'd get the same sort of treatment from a factory based in Maranello for example :P
