Welcome to the NEC. The reason I was so protective of the chips is that they cost £5/portion!

I have to admit that does leave me in a state of shock,

And not only the price, but that is a dinning facility at a major UK car show? :no:sick:

Jacques Chirac was right

Looks like the B 52 has an X15 under the starboard wing.....presumably that's Edwards AFB? Iirc, Scott Crossfield - one of the X15 test pilots - said the X15 was the only aeroplane he ever flew where he was relieved when the fuel ran out and the engine stopped!

Amazing to think B52s are still in active service alter almost 60 years!!! (first one flew in April '52).

More amazing is they plan to keep them going for some time:

From Wikipedia:

Future of the B-52

Even while the Air Force works on its Next-Generation Bomber and 2037 Bomber projects, it intends to keep the B-52H in service until at least 2040, 78 years after production ended, 85 years after it entered service. This will be an unprecedented length of service for a military aircraft.

Sobering thought to think I was born just after they first flew, but will very likely die years before they stop flying them in active service.

Why hasn't the rear plane got a shadow?

'cos it's flying in 'Stealth Mode', non?

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice.<br />

In practice, there is!

Very impressive in any case.

Thanks, Laura. That was very restfull.:D

John (molemot), the B52 pic is one where it's carrying the NASA X-43A Hyper-X. Not sure that the X-15 and the F18 Hornet were contemporaneous.

For your further viewing pleasure....at the other end of the spectrum.
