Stratos - now you're talking !

They build the best Stratos kit not far from me (30mins drive) - Hawk is the company. Some of the other Stratos reps I have seen have questionable design, the suspension for a start was very dodgy on the one I saw (corsa ? or something) - fine cars.

The GT40 didn't make it into the garage next to the Esprit. A little disappointed but when things are almost too good to be true they usually are. Just never felt good about the GT. Some modifications were questionable and I wasn't sure how deep a hole I was getting into.

Maybe one day I will own a Ferrari beater??

I still own an Esprit and quick she is.

Hey Louis you and I have the same thoughts.. I considered a GT40 but really want to do something completely different.. I actually started planning a Ferrari F40 replica project, from scratch.. I found a source for an accurate 1/4 scale model with ferrari assembly drawings, started the cad drawings for the body panels, and bought a suspension design software package.

Kit cars are cars in their own right and don't need to be built to look like something else. Which is why I like this kind of thing:

Here, here.

The F40 replica is fantastic, but it's not real. It's pretending to be something it's not. The Ultima, and others like it, are their own deal.

Actually, I don't know if I would call Roland's F40 a replica... It is an F40... Just not built all at the same time. The chassis, engine, transmission, suspension components, brakes, and body are all Ferrari F40. But it was assembled from many cars, and modified to be similar to a F40LM race car. Since there were only 13 F40LM's made, those are rare. This is trying to be an LM, and it isn't.

Not exact in same garage but same parking lot... We all went out for the early this last sunday morning fast run on the expressway, no police, hardly any other cars, practiclly a private runway for us. I topped my Esprit at 175 mph. the Ford GT went to 190 mph... great fun.

I'm with Jens on this one, why make a fake copy of a 1960's car, when you can build something with your own styling. I would love to build my own car one day, but at the moment have neither the time of the expertise.

Thinking about radial modifcations to my existing car :D - DOn't like the front, but the rear looks good.
