Mick Bull
Hi everyone, just recieved my new exhaust manifold from SWL, not sure? should I paint it before fitting or leave it? is there any paint out there that will stay on? I think I have seen a thread about this but unsure, can anyone advise, Mick
98GT3
http://www.lotusespritforum.com/forums/ind...ic=4901&hl= There's one! Now some time has passed and I will say that it does stay on, but rust spots will evenually come through - if it wasn't dark I would take some pictures of it as it is now. Painted or not it will last a very long time, but if you do paint do mask the gasket surfaces. Phil 98GT3
andydclements
Paint, I'd say not a hope, ceramic coatings are touch and go as to whether they can take the heat, or more importantly the variation in temperate. Just bung it on.
Mick Bull
Thanks for the difference of opinion I think I will give it a coat, if it stays on OK, if it doesent not a lot lost, Mick
Glyn Harper
If the manifold does get too hot for the coating, it may burn off giving you a lot of worrying smoke in the process! I had this happen on another car.
Jonathan
Never seen or heard of a paint that can withstand that temp. You could give POR-20 a go, I painted my cat with it but it's not taken long for the rust to climb back through. Vulcan Grey
My friend ceramic coated his exhaust manifold in his X180-R. Worked well to keep manifold temps down.... Cracked his turbo turbine housing in several places though... Heat has to go somewhere.
