Lurker finally posting 88 turbo

Hi everyone. I have been reading forum for years and finally decided to post. I have an 88 Esprit Turbo. When I bought it four years ago it was in pretty bad shape. It wouldn't stay running because the vacuum lines were completely messed up, even found a Ford coffee can mixed in with the vacuum parts, and anyone knows in a Bosch injected one that doesn't work. I got it running not long after buying it.

I drove it around the neighborhood some the next summer, but since it is in dire need of a new paint job I haven't driven much lately(a shame to drive around with nasty paint). That and being on the road for work the last 2 years on top of moving to another house have caused it to become quite the garage floor weight.

I now actually have some time to work on it again and a repaint is top priority, followed by some interior refreshing. The paint is so bad I have large chips coming off clean down to the gelcoat, possibly from a previous respray but not sure, and cracks all over.

A little history on it. It has about 35000 miles and I think has sat for at least 7-8 years outside what little driving I have done. I would like some advice from some of the experts here on about what I should replace/refurb to get it in dependable(as much as possible:) condition again. Maybe something like must do's and nice to do's.

Thanks,

Niles

Have you replaced all the Engine cooling hoses? JAE has a great silicone set that is a little cheaper than OEM. I would go ahead and replace all rubber hoses throughout the car. Check your petrol tank evap lines. They are probably rotten as well.

Welcome! I dont blame you for not wanting to drive such a beautiful car thats in such horrible shape.I would deffinitely take care of the outside, before you even look at the interior.Im currently redoing my interior, one piece at a time(whenever the money comes). Please post some pics.

Welcome, at least to posting. Hows about some before and after shots when you've finished the exterior!

Greg thanks for the input. I will definitely take care of the hoses, good lead on the kit. As for the pics, I will take a few before I start and then maybe document with pics as much of the process as I can. I will probably start thread in the restoration section for those interested in the progress.

Thanks to all for the welcome.
