The team Lotus race car badges went black after the death of Jim Clark at Hockenheim , April 7th. 1968

I presume Colin Chapman got the idea from the Rolls Royce badge changing from red to black after Henry Royces death.

The road cars also went black in 1968 , but it has never seemed to be entirely consistant.

My 1983 has a black badge

Never liked the "Updated GM" era badge :P

Me Neither - I assume you're refering to the Yellow & Green one I've got stuck on the front of mine. With the Dark Metallic Paint, it sticks out like dogs danglies..

They are also on the seat backs (PO's idea) which actually doesn't look too bad. Mine are a bit cheap and nasty reproductions and think I'll be replacing them with the black ones (which I believe are correct for 1984?) soon enough...

There is no real consistency to them at all

TBH... put whichever one on pleases you the most!

Could have been designed by Oliver Winterbotham(he was back there at that time)

The original design is the best IMO  B)

Timeless classic innit :P  :P

While I agree that this badge looks silly, I'd like to point out that my cars badges look about the same as yours, Wayne, except for the colour. And I think the cheerful yellow/green scheme suits the red cars better, and that the sombre black scheme suits the white cars better. :P
