What Hobbies do you do that are nerdy

Recommended Posts

Reading Stu's post about his disaster with flying model planes I thought "oh, I have a couple of nerdy hobbies as well (the term nerdy depends on your perspective obviously). I thought, with Christmas coming up, who'll be hiding away from their family cleaning their model cars or looking at their old Whizzer and Chips magazines etc.

Then I thought, Crikey, I have some old Comics and if anyone wanted them they could have them! So this post is twofold. Show us your nerdy hobby and if anyone can help with adding to it then please do. Pics as well please ladies and gents!

I'll start. I have 4 main hobbies. Model Cars (circa 200), World War 1 postcards (circa 500-1000), Lotus memorabilia (everyone here may have a little of that), and Playing Computer War/Strategy games.

Here's pics of the cars and postcards. You've all seen alot of the pics of my memorabilia stuff.

I spend time on the internet talking on car-related forums!

Also, I like model railroading, particularly N-scale.

I'm restoring an antique clock 1890's

You can see the face and movement in a container just behind it. I've been doing for almost a year, progress has been slowed by a certain Esprit. Prior to that I built a sub-woffer, works well right in the targeted range.

That counts because over half of them don't work!

I'll have you know that in the last few days, I've been driving the TE, I've started and moved the Excel, the Elf has been for an MOT, now that's three been running. The scimitar (I nearly typed Relaint, but thought better of that) runs but hasn't run for a couple of weeks. that leaves, Europa, S3, kit car in kit form, Landy, and oh yes. I shall not continue , i concede your point. Four out of nine isn't bad is it?

I collect 1:18 and 1:43 model cars all in the original boxes. Very 40 year old Virgin! Anyone with a normal balanced brain on seeing my study at home would think it's a cry for help. I convince my self it saves me a fortune owning the real things.

Nothing quite like the fun of slipping out to the golf course early, picking out a good spot in the rough, setting up the surpressed .22, and shooting golf balls right off the greens... WHahahah.... :P

But then when I got older I started collecting car stuff from anything and everything. I also apparently collect cats. I love cats. Have 5 of them now... and one that I feed that comes up from the woods with a Racoon buddie.

The thing I'm regarded as most nerdy about is sitting under my laptop for ages every day reading and typing away to various fora - LEF being the main one obviously! Dont you lot take flack for that???

I dont have much time for non chore type activities but occassionally get to shoot an Air rifle (at targets or rabbits), or Archery (at a target) - but they're not especially nerdy things to do are they?

Of course the real nerd in me is clearly in evidence in my barn/workshop which I'm slowly taming - getting all my tools set out and ready to hand, my "stuff" in labelled boxes on custom racking, all the "nut screws washer and bolts" ( :P:unsure: ) in separate jars, etc, etc.

Loving Lionel and Eleanor......missing Charlie and Sonny
