Wow, making your own cheese! There's enough of that to go round on here! LOL

But in seriousness we have been thinking of doing the same. Do you do it with milk from the supermarket or do you buy it fresh from a farmer?

Well, thats an issue.

You could get it from the farmer, but most don't pasteurise on site so you might take a small risk.

The problem is not that process but that almost all milk is now homogenised - thats why you dont get 'top of the bottle' cream anymore. Jersey milk can be bought but its too expensive to make it worthwhile, so, you can reverse engineer old fashioned milk.

Just buy skimmed milk, then add double cream. Still works out cheaper than buying even rubbish cheese!

A book by Rikkii Carroll called 'home cheese making' is the one to get.

You do need some kit - some molds and a press, although I made mine from some scrap wood.

You can make mozzarella with no equipment in 60 minutes or so though!

cardboard templates, then welded and finished.

Originals like this would have been raised from a single thick piece - a very difficult and highly skilled task.

My Nerdy hobby - well one of them. I am trying to design and eventually build a 5 inch gauge diesel loco. In its time it was the most powerful loco in Europe built by SNCF and full of new innovative design. Only 2 were ever made - probably too innovative

As I have absolutely no experience of CAD or design of anything like this it is taking me rather a long time to do the simplest things. So far I have about half a bogey. Should be finished some time next century.

Since the new Elite game came out "Elite Dangerous" I fly the Galaxies, exploring the far reaches of space (there are 4 billion star systems in the game but that's expanding daily to around 400 billion). Its dangerous out there and I fight off scavengers and pirates (both AI and real players), trade and map my way through the galaxies!

Sometime it feels like real because it takes ages to fly from 1 place to another in galaxy. So I fix food etc...until my Computer bleeps a warning of impending doom....as my inattentiveness flys me into a sup Nova
