What Hobbies do you do that are nerdy

I have taken up flying model helecopters over the last year. Started with a Hirobo XRB (double rotor), progressed to Hirobo SRB (single rotor) and am now getting to grips with a bigger Kyosho Calibre 400. The Hirobo models have been great trainers and take a lot of abuse while only needing replacement rotor blades. The 400 is less forgiving and far more dangerous, but having learned on the smaller models I am not crashing so much now.

Also, my son was given my brother in law's 30 year old N -guage railway gear a few months back. We now have a fully detailed layout under construction and I must admit to realy enjoying the modelling. My son is happy to play with it and let me build it, suits me fine!

I hope to get back to being a pure Esprit nurd some time next year!

I also apparently collect cats. I love cats. Have 5 of them now... and one that I feed that comes up from the woods with a Racoon buddie.

Kinda' gives new meaning to the term "Alabama cat house" don't it, Cameron? :)

HAHAHAH!!! hmmm... well. I've been Nerdy... I used to program in Turbo Pascal and GW Basic and regular Basic from the age of 5 untill the age of 15 or so... That was definitely Nerdy. Then I became a more angered child and began playing with explosives -- mainly things like match-head rockets and Nitrogen tri-iodide (a wonderful practical joke explosive -- it's stable when wet, but when it chrystalizes, it explodes with the touch of a feather duster.) I guess the explosives thing was a dark time. Then I became artistic and would delve into the sculpturing of wood for hours on end without seeming to require sleep etc... However, now, I consider myself much less nerdy... I only work 7 days a week -- selling cars, restoring a lotus, modifying other Loti... Perhaps I'm wrong about being less nerdy

oh yeah... I once hacked the supervisors password using a trojan type login script that I made... that was ULTRA-UBER-SUPER-NERDY :)

Notrogen tri-iodide...that takes me back..to the late 1950's...Shene County Grammar; the Scientific Society were doing a lecture on explosives..needless to say, all of us 3rd formers were there. One of the elite of the Upper Science Sixth was to demonstrate "decrepitation"..where things don't actually explode, but sort of "crackle". For this he had prepared some nitrogen tri-iodide on filter papers. He had one in each hand, and raised the right one high in the air, then tilted it saying "As it runs over the edge, it will decrepitate."

Well, of course, nothing happened...so he tilted it a bit more...total silence from the assembled heathen hoardes...no decrepitation, either...a bit more tilt and BANG!! very loudly as all the stuff went off at once...this made him jerk from the shock and...the other filter paper load went off too!!!! Clouds of purple smoke and a white faced demonstrator, 3rd form in stitches!!

Yes! Hahaha. I started off with one and then that was that. Hannah (daughter) loves them all and i am rather fond of them myself. Trouble is they cost me... hence the collection term... a true Alabama cat house and I'd be getting 20% minimum of the total take.

The stray tom that shows nightly(ish) with a rather large racoon is interesting. They are always together. Not sure if the racoon thinks it is a cat or the other way 'round? I know there is a childrens story getting inspired here, but writing is not a good hobby for me these days...

Nerdy hobbies? Well - building models is nerdy in itself but I also keep my used airplane boarding cards. That's pretty nerdy. Dunno how it started but once you get going its hard to stop. Must have about 800 now, since 1995. Buggers, sometimes you don't get a boarding card now, all electronic...

I also log my flights on FlightMemory.com. Started to input my flight history from my job travel accounts and known vacations, but gave up after a while. There must be better ways of killing time!

Marge: Homer, I don't want you driving around in a car you built yourself.

Homer : Marge, you can either sit there complaining, or you can knit me some seat belts...

I the past I have restored old, 60's and 70's, pinball machines. Currently I have three, an Evil Kinevil, Lost World and a Harlem Globe Trotters, all Bally first generation cpu. On a scale of one to ten, I would give that a five for nerdy.

I also enjoy interior and exterior ballistics. Mostly rifles, wilcats and just unusual stuff. My last round of interest was the .270 Ackley Improved. A strong number 7 on the nerd scale. Mostly because I don't really hunt anymore.

I collect obelisks, though I am very fussy about which ones I will and won't have. I also collect ecclesiastical antiques, though I am not remotely religious.

I have also for some time been considering keeping hens. If anyone has any experience or advice, I'd welcome it.

Just because you can, does'nt mean you should.

I'm a gentleman so I'm going to leave this one alone, but I'm soooooooooooo champing at the bit.

Didn't know where else to put this, but my wife has a hobby that is fine that she does, but would be nerdy if I did it --

is it the word phallic Tony?

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

Of course not Howard, I am an intelligent man with a subtle sense of humour with many undertones of Comedy Noir nuances.
