last weekend marked a whole year since first driving the car. i had a funeral to contend with the same day, so the anniversary completely slipped my mind. i summed the running costs minus purely cosmetic fixes, and it totted up to well under $2000USD. not bad for a 21 year old nondomestic vehicle.

thanks guys. i was fairly comprehensive in compiling those figures. they included all fluids except petrol, and all lotus specific tools. shipping cost for parts was also figured in. i estimate 3-4 full days per month spent under the car, but i was nearly always reading this forum at the same time for company.

much like sliced bread, a lotus car lands butter side down without intervention. i do like he car, but i'd have manufactured it better given the chance. i was most surprised how little i'd spent on it. i'd imagined 50% more.

must admit car tinkering is fun. if the esprit were more self sufficient, i'd keep a triumph tr4 or two on the side. gotta love them olde grease slappers.

i haven't had the car long. in fact i've only had to do minor repairs. however, i've practically disassembled the whole car to get access. thanks lotus.

i take very bad care of the silver shadow II, and because it is registered/insured as a hibernator, i'm technically not supposed to be driving it. it sometimes goes 8 months without having the carcover lifted. i change the oil once a year. it's still running like a champ though. no oil leaks. so the answer to your question is: i spend next to nothing on the rolls. a disgruntled girl tried running her keys across the paint, and it barely scratched the surface. i was able to spraycan some polyurethane clear into the scratch, then buff it all smooth.
