S1/S2 Steering Column?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the Esprit steering column came from another car. If so, do we know what make, model and year?

I've recently acquired a mint new-old-stock MOMO Andretti steering wheel as used on the '79 JPS Esprit. I've found a few places that have the correct hub adapter, but they want more for the adapter than I paid for the wheel! <_<

Since Lotus wisely sourced so many parts for these cars from other manufacturers, I'm thinking the column must be from another car. Therefore, maybe I can just buy an adapter for that make and model and circumvent the "Lotus Tax" on that item.

My apologies if this has already been covered before.

-Mike

I believe the steering column splines are the same as a 70s Morris(Austin )Marina and the Triumph (Spitfire, Dolomite, Stag etc) :(

Momo doesnt presently list a boss(adapter) for these cars :)

Your only alternative is ebay, flea markets, swap meets etc.

Unless anyone on the forum has one :(

SJ sportcars sells a boss adapter for about 65 pounds. After exchange rate and shipping it adds to $150, or about as much as I paid for the wheel. :P

Lotus by Claudius makes them, but they are $200. :(:(

I had considered making one myself (I'm a mechanical engineering student) but we have no way to cut splines at our SAE shop. :(

However, I can now look for a Triumph one. Thanks Wayne! :(
