Chrispy333
Hello from snowy Kettering, UK Probably like many people grew up with the esprit, James Bond, etc After years of saving (wife, kids, houses getting in the way), hopefully 2009 will be the year I purchase my first esprit. So starting all my research and more saving in earnest. Any help and suggestions would be most welcome. andydclements
Welcome to the forum, think of this as day-release, but purchase of an Esprit requires full commital to a suitable medical facility. On the advice front. Decide what you want the Esprit for/ what you want from it (absolute max power/ classic looks / contemporary looks/ handling / the list goes on). Once you know what is most important you can then decide the model, for example if absolute start on first turn is required when left in damp, forget any which rely on Lucas elcectrics. Consider the budget, but dont run with the assumption that you only need to budget for buying the car, there will invariably be some things you find in ownership you are unhappy with but the previous owner didn't even consider as being an issue. So leave some funds for early ownership repairs. Get any prospective purchase inspected. Andy
Newts
...but blue ones look best Whatever colour you get, you will need to get used to having a to do list, usually silly insignificant things like window motors working only when they want too, heaters that dont, erratic fuel gauges, epileptic wiper arms. But truth be said, there's little out there for the money to match the experience and I suppose that's why we put up with that stuff. Oh and the person above wears an anorak (although he is quite helpful when things go wrong!) [in joke] Colin Quote Colin
oneshot
Sorry but everyone knows that silver is THE colour (see PaulC's thread on the subject). Especially the special editions Quote Dave - 2000 Sport

Especially the special editions I agree Silver, and include the 111s Elise as a special edition. Welcome Chris. Were you one of the Chris's that Emailed me about my white SE when i was selling it? I pointed interested folk in the direction of the forum.

Paul C
Have you escaped from the padded pavillion again paul with your mad mate Dave? Indeed. And after all the body fluids me and Dave saw splashed over the cell walls... The thought of anything red, yellow, white, brown or green is just too much. Silver: The Key that got us out. Trevsked
Welcome and take no notice of the above colour comments, James Bond knew that the white ones were faster, better looking and save the world. ifly
Welcome and my $0.02 is that Blue is the best (as no one has mentioned it yet!) especially Nightfall Blue on a Final Edition! But then again I am extremely prejudiced! I bear no grudge against the spectrum of visible colours between Ultraviolet and Infrared but I am definitely leaning in the Ultraviolet end of the spectrum. Just don't like 900 to 910 Nanometers either (bloody LIDAR). Chrispy333
Hello all Thanks for the welcome and all the very useful information on the best colour! andydclements - Thanks for the additional considerations. PaulC - No it wasnt myself re a white esprit. I dont like wasting peoples time if I'm not serious. Ignoring colour, models looking at re budget/looks etc would be SE, S4, S4S. That being said I would welcome any advice from current or past owners on the above models, or anybody else who would like to "sell" the benefits of their particular favorite model. I'm pretty well open minded. cheers for now chrispy
Paul C
That being said I would welcome any advice from current or past owners on the above models, or anybody else who would like to "sell" the benefits of their particular favorite model. I'm pretty well open minded. Advice: Have a look at the regional groups and go to a meet. Also the donnington show is coming up and there will be groups from all over the country meeting up to drive there together. Chances are you can drive to a motorway services and then spend the day as a passenger in all of the models you mention and some more besides. I never miss the oppertunity to beg a ride, even if mines just in the workshop, have had some great days out as a passenger, jumping from car to car at each stop. Better than looking at cars for sale by miles.
