Well chaps, yet another 14th Feb to put pressure on us all to deliver things we wouldn't do for ourselves :)

I'll be spending it in Sydney, 'romantically' climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

It's a quaint old tradition that has been hyjacked by card retailer, florists and confectioners and exploited by restaurants. So we feel guilty for not partaking in some way...

Well I'll probably get the Mrs some roses and take her to see a film. :D

Look what Q's brought us. Isn't it nice!

To my knowledge the tradition has always been the giving of cards/notes, obviously hallmark makes a pretty penny out of the day but I don't know if you can consider it a hijacked tradition so much as the card manufacturers taking advantage of tradition!

Apparently there were a few St Valentines, the famous one that spurned our traditions was one in Rome in the times of Emperor Claudius who believed married men made rubbish soldiers and outlawed the marriage of young men. Bishop Valentine said marriage is all part of God's plan and continued to conduct marriages in secret. When he was found out he was thrown in jail before being beheaded whilst there he apparently fell in love with the jailer's daughter and on the eve of his execution he gave her a note which said "from your Valentine". Hence the tradition of love letters and cards

Charming story really (and it's how I know, there are varying accounts if you google it like I did to check on the emperor) and actually you're right it has been hijacked by florists, restaurants etc but I guess we all need a day/time of year for business to boom! It's funny how religious holidays seem to be turned in to big business and the religion part dropped. St Valentine has been shunned for Cupid; the death of JC for the Eater bunny; the birth of JC for Santa. I'm not religous myself so I suppose for me I'm glad for the hijacking so I can enjoy the festivities too!

(don't forget the flowers & the chocolates dear)

Alternatively, I might plump for the gift wrapped WD40 and Tyre Gell option. :D

Me and Vicki are celebrating!!!!

...our mate lou's birthday.

:P

Valantines day to me means nothing at all. There's guys i work with that

do the whole deal: Flowers, chocolates, table for two etc every year, but as

we buy chocolates and have tables for two all year round, i don't really see

the point of booking somewhere fully booked for a change.

Our valantine plan is fancy dress to pub, mates birthday, people stay over,

breakfast in town tomorrow, curry tomorrow night. Avoiding like the plague

those folk that never normally go out, struggling to strike up conversation

with each other cause there's no telly or kids in the background...

I am currently sporting the gayest moustache you have ever seen, i have spent

the last five weeks all beardy and shaved it off last night. I'm going as a kinda

'Paul Rutherford' style 1980's homosexual. Perhaps pics will appear tomorrow.

living the vanaltine dream.

:)

Travis now that is how you are supposed to celebrate V-day!! LOL

It got better...

After the show we ended up at a strip club in Denver.

My friend texted me that he was going to a strip club, and my date wanted to go... So we met up with two of my friends, and my date paid for all of us to get in, my friend Jason bought the drinks, and I handed out $1's for her to go get some attention from the girls on stage.

And she doesn't believe in Valentines day either!

I believe i don't understand things anymore

valentine is for secret lovers

not for your partner or wife

buy anything you like everyday but don't buy something for valentine

the only people buying there partner something with valentine (and not on other days) are non creative, non original and gready people

yep

been happily married for 26 years and give lots of preasents

BUT NOT FOR VALENTINE !@#$%^&*()_
