Hi Nigel - I was after one too and was a bit shocked at the price.

The main issue is the bend and the sensor hole which adds to its cost.

I'm currently in the hunt for a suitable replacement exhuast so keep your eyes peeled on here to see what comes along - there is some info on the Twin Exit Exhaust thread as well about custom manufacturers.

Not sure these pipes have stainless steel fittings on them (bolt holders) - depending on the type and grade of the stainless steel having mild steel components scratching up against it will also cause the stainless to become 'infected' (don't believe me try scratching stainless with a normal steel wire brush and leave it out in the rain, watch the area corrode).

Personally if I shell out for a nice stainless system, for this price I'd expect it to be all stainless steel - I was always instructed to keep stainless away from mild steel unless I can unsulate the 2 (with bolts it's done with something like copper grease)...obviously on an exhaust system it'll be a lot harder.

Don't bother asking PNM for one, I ordered one from them 3 months ago and still no sign of it, so I gave up on them and am looking in getting a custom built system from the turbo down.

Although I will take Pauls advice and order a new O2 sensor first.

Think SJ are going to get my money again as well.

Paul - what material are the collars that carry the bolts ? Mild or stainless as well ?

If they are steel might have a go at blacking them to stop them going all crusty like mine are at the moment. Did you get new studs and bolts as well ?

just a question

Why a new D-cat pipe

I just emptied my cat

The costs are very little if you have someone to do it for you

even the sound gets a bit deeper

researche is something i do when i don't know what the hell i'm doing

I've got a stainless de-cat pipe which I'll be putting up on ebay tomorrow. It's the shorter version to allow the EBPV to remain in situ (which is pretty silly since the only function of the EBPV is to warm the cat) but I guess it is one less thing to re-fit for the MOT!

"Very little" sounds like a good price , did you modify the cat yourself or do you know what's involved ?

The catalytic converter istself is a brick which is held in place by wadding and the sealed in the can of the cat.

You may have read that running out of petrol is bad for your cat. That's because unburnt fuel can make it to the cat, gets soaked up by the wadding which later burns taking the wadding with it. The cat brick then rattles round in the cat can can until it breaks up...

If you really want, you can break the cat brick up and withdraw the bits from the can.

'Course depending on the year of your car you will need to refit the cat for the MOT in order to meet emissions requirements and if you've removed the cat brick you'll need to source another cat from somewhere...

good point.

Mine was falling apart around the seams of the weld so

gutting it and using the pipe section was not an easy option.

Jon,

Am pretty sure the port was ally too, can't be sure, but can look

i guess as it's a year old nearly so should show as steel if it is.

Did not fit myself, so not sure of the studs.
