Aaaaagh! First speeding nick for 27 years

Coming back after collecting Chris's Marcos on Saturday, I was allegedly clocked in the Esprit at 58mph in the 50 restriction on the M25 near the Bell Common tunnel.

So the NIP arrived today. I genuinely believe I wasn't speeding, as I'm really careful about that bit. But what's the point fighting it? They'll never give in to an Esprit driver.

Not as spectacular as Bibs's recent tug, but bloody annoying nonetheless!

Hehehe - very good!

Not sure how they detected - nice photo of me on the NIP. I thought it was average speed there. Why?

They should tell you how they took the picture. If you genuinely believe you weren't speeding they may be mistaken, stranger things have happened.

If it's a NIP, you're off to court. If it's a conditional offer of a fixed penalty, 3 points and

To be totally honest i think they should throw the book at you.

:)

58mph on a four lane motorway is just bloody irresponsible. What if a child had

run out in front of you? Or a removal lorry reversed in your way from a side road?

Exactly. Nothing to say have you?

When kids are running to get to the ice cream van parked up on the hard shoulder,

when lollipop ladies step out to let children cross to the school in the central reservation,

when old folk are trying to cross and then hobble up the embankment to the day centre...

...the world does not need absolute nutters like you doing speeds of 58mph on the

bloody M25 motorway of all places. I think a custodial sentence is required in this case.

58mph?

I hope you feel suitably ashamed of yourself.

Tell them you saw the sign saying average speed limit, but got confused as to whether or not they were using the mean, the median or the mode............... so drove at varying speeds giving you a three to one chancing of fluking it. Then say its a grey area and ask that in future the signs say Average Speed Limit (mode)*

*insert the method used by your local force.....

Jon,

Is it illegal to have a camera van on a footpath? I was done doing 38 in a 30 last year in the Esprit by such a van,

Sparky,

Get your speedo tested, on the above fine I was convinced I was only doing 30-32 as cars had been flashing so I slowed down on purpose but they said 38! Always ask for the photo and the calibration cert for the camera, dont make it easy for them. I know the bottom line is don't speed but I maintain that if you passed a patrol car doing that speed he would not pull you. One more thing, this 50 zone, I don't suppose it was through miles of cones with no percivable work going on was it. Sometimes these almost fake roadworks consitute a speed trap IMO. :animier:

58mph! 58mph!! for god sakes 58mph!!!

Do you not realise that this is supposed to be a 20mph zone??? just in case a disabled, non gender specific, Illegal Immigrant, Polar Bear was in the vicinity.

Now bend over and take it like a man whilst Uncle Gordon has his way.

Perhaps you should preach hate instead, I hear the Govt pay you for that now.

Tut Tut.

( fight it, please )

Adrian - I know of 2 instances where vans were parked, tickets were given and people got off inc 1 chap in my office.

1) was at the bottom of the A229 as the main dual carriage way goes under an elevated roundabout junction - the van was illegally parked on this junction off the road and on a pedestrian side walk.

Punch this - 51.301155,0.513754 into google maps to see the exact loc.

2) is at the top of that hill, but the image is less clear, commonly they were parked in chevrons which is illegal.

I've never seen those camera vans ever again after that incident.

Here is also a snippet :

http://www.uswitch.com/news/carinsurance/2...-illegally.cmsx

Those operating a mobile speed camera in Ashton-in-Makerfield have come in for criticism because their van was apparently parked in an illegal place.

Local Tony Riley claimed that the vehicle, because it was parked on the pavement, could have been "breaking the law", reports the Wigan Evening Post.

Even if they have authority to do so, it's still against the law to park illegally.

Highway code covers :

http://www.ukmotorists.com/highway%20code....bmit=Submit#900

Namely :

218. DO NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs, the visually impaired and people with prams or pushchairs.

Man... what a pissy place that you get tagged by "vans" and cameras! Sounds like California? You get stopped here it is by a guy... and he will show you the speedo gun recording of your speed. Then, he might write you a warning if you are not a total ass.

My wife was caught by that one a few years back . She was in a MATIZ of all things to get done for speeding in. I was amazed that piece of c**p could even reach the speed limit (50 mph on a duel caridge way) let alone pass it. It also doesnt seem to have the stats listed on the Safety Partnership site for that camera. Think I might follow that one up!!

Malc - they were doing it for years, basically catching anyone going down the hill, as you know if goes from dual carriage way to 50mph, geat spot to dangle the hook if you ask me.

This is why I hate speed scameras they are not there for safety otherwise they would be used such, they are there to catch you out (ie at the bottom of hills / where speed changes by more than 20mph through zones without the road layout changing).
