Start off with:

So, 179. 98 V8-GT [50k miles :D ], stock apart from:

S350 ECM

Hollow cats

Straight through pipes (exhaust replaced by 5 quid bit of aluminium sheeting to avoid drag/lift)

No rear spoiler [as standard B) ]

S350 front spoiler/lip

And as I said on the main thread I disconnected the wastegates but the conditions were utterly perfect to do so!

It's so true that speed is addictive! I was gagging for that last 1mph but never managed it. Nice round number, three miles per minute, any reason. Especially that fecking Gallardo that clipped me to 180. Bastard.

Could it be done? Obviously with the cash but aside from that:

* Longer straight.

> Definitely - was still accelerating at the trap after 1.4 miles. The Macca F1's 242 and Veyron's 256 were both done at VW's Ehra Lessian test track and required its full 9km straight with banked curves at both ends. Needless to say Koieng-thingy have not been advited.

* Never had a clean run onto the straight. 1st time an NSX nearly spun in front of me (179), 2nd on the gas too soon and had to back off (179), 3rd tried taking the leading corner in fourth - nope (178), 4th it was so foggy I couldn't even see the apex (179)

* Engine. Perfect conditions, turbo's maxed out.

* Finally, gearing.

> 179 took 7050rpm. The Lotus tech manuals are all over the place on this. Stock SE 7000, GT 7400. Checked mine this evening and with the S350 code, the limiter was 7400 [Adrian, I think your rev counter is just talking bollocks - I could have checked today with my laptop :) ]. Anyway we're way off where we want to be. The V8 maxes at 6500rpm. Stock @ 7000 rpm is 7% down! A six speed would make quite a difference.

But, and I'll stick my neck out on this, the Renault box is well capable. It was *perfectly* suited for the 4 cylinders, each ratio was a little less than the previous one.

Alas, Lotus farted over it when the V8 came along. Somewhat of a hacksaw job. They left the gearbox alone, just changed fifth to a stupidly long ratio so it could manage a selling point of 175mph.

Upgrade today to remove Google ads and support TLF.

Neal. I reckon you'd have at least 1mph if you didnt' have the "comedy" ride height at the rear. :D Did you see how low the RUF was running??

Dermot's fuel would be the easiest/cheapest thing to do next. Gave me 3mph...

There's always NOS... :)

I new sooner or later I'd be getting my OrR in this debate....I was thinking of you guys yesterday....My car ...I turned the rear Defuser into a wing by adding a piece of alloy behind the Defuser its about 10" wide now..and its a proper Wing Shape easy to do....I did my car about 3 years ago..have a photo taken from under the side.

But Why...because the defuser is offering a brick wall to the Air Flow When the Silencer(Muffler) has been removed...(Mine 2001)

What about removing the wing mirrors?

I have replaced the Citron items on my V8GT with Spa Le Mans convex items. This was more for the look (much improved) than a reduction in drag, but it could make all the diffrence at 179mph.

I had them turned back but removing altogether might have helped. But that involves taking the door panels off which was a bit too much on the day...

also need to remove windshield wiper and use a lot of duct tape

Yep, wiper was off but no duct taping all the seams. Paintwork was getting enough of a battering from all the stones being kicked up!

That's my mate Johan...nice one you should keep the wife off the screen especially at Bonniville.....

Fact Johan's ECU upgrade is the Bee's Knees now my Sport 350 can go like it looks ..FAB..& its dramaticitcally better....all the Extra Power all the time any gear ...better MPG as well....pure magic.....Want the ECU Upgrade get 5 members & shout me..save lots of $$$..

Its an easy job any one can do..Tail gate Open...Disconnect Battery...take the Inner side cover out drivers side.small self tappers.....4 small bolts on the ECU..pull the socket clamping lever back...remove your ECU..

refit same way..Do it Now while weather is Naf....Rob C

eehhh.. Duct tape is only good to 200MPH and after the second try, the blonde skipped town.
