Wrinkly rear carpets!

Recommended Posts

Was going through the interior of my 'boot' area today after fitting a new fire extinguisher.

decided my carpets were looking a bit wrinkled and shabby so thought I would risk ruining them and try to give them an overhaul, at worst I would have to buy new ones, which were needed anyway.

Outcome is that I ironed my carpets! chucked em on the ironing board lobbed a cloth over the top and job done! they look brand new fit straight back in and saved myself

The boot of my Series 2 has no carpet rear of the engine and the floor is all lumps and bumps with a U-section piece of metal running across over the gearbox mounts. Is there some padding under the carpet to smooth it out, or does it just follow the contours?

Funny you should say that Paul, I actually borrowed my Girl Friends Iron as some friendly far easterns are usually trusted with my shirts.

As for melting my lovely mother (fountain of all knowledge) suggested using a tea towel to stop melting, sure enough it did the job without incident.

Do you not have to be really careful though?

I assume the carpet is nylon/plasticy and the

iron could melt it a bit?

No the carpet in my S3 has 2 poppers at the base of the engine 'pod thingy' and was originally glued (with what looked like Evo stick) to the inside back edge of the car, I refittied with sticky back velcro so it would be easy to remove for future ironing and access to the Diff plug. B)

That iron the carpet thing is a good idea

I am going to give it a try and see if it makes my trunk carpet slightly less disgusting :)
