espritmania 34
Hi, I am building a 2.2n/a HC engine I have had to replace all the cam carriers so all the shims are too thick.Do the shims fit any other cars?? Thanks Paul .
giorgio67 185
Hi Paul, for sure they are not Lotus parts as the cam followers. You can find them in any thickness from SJ look here: http://www.sjsportscars.co.uk/partsandacce...p;Submit=search but if you intend to use 104 cam on inlet only or both inlet/exhaust I would suggest to change your original tappet with the later steel type....the early iron tappets are not enough strong for the hc cams. andydclements 762
From memory, Saab and Triumph used the same size, probably mnay others (Personally I use a kit for a Hesketh motorcycle as they fit).
GSimpson 0
I got a full set of exchange shims from http://www.impwerks.co.nz/ (New Zealand) who specialise in Hillman Imps. They only charged me for grinding ones they could not directly exchange for stock sizes. Jaguar also work.

jonwat 422
Grinding shims to a smaller size isn't recomended as you can go through the surface hardening & they won't last two minutes. Cheers, John W Quote Cheers, John W http://jonwatkins.co.uk
GSimpson 0
I should clarify that they did not grind my original shims but swapped for exact size where possible and only ground ones that were as close as possible to the correct size to minimise grinding. At least the Lotus shims sit under the buckets as opposed to on top as with the case of my Lancia. Advantage of Lancia system is you can change the shims without disturbing the camshafts.
