Alignment advice

Recommended Posts

My S1 is nearing completion of it's front end rebuild (bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, shocks, rotors/pads and bearing re-pack)and subsequent visit to the alignment specialists. Does anyone have advice or tribal knowledge on the best settings to use? I know these vary depending on type of use but I'd prefer something that leans towards best performance/response/feel over best tyre wear. Any suggestions for this new owner would be quite useful. Thanks in advance!

My advice is simple, go with the book settings.

If you buy a Mondeo Ford will aim togive acceptable handling and good tyre wear.

Lotus will go with tyre wear that is not unbareable and handling that is as good as they can get.

Thus you can assume Lotus really will have done the work you'd look to re-create.

Ditto what Andy says. After my front end rebuild I had the car set as per the book and the handling was spot on despite the tyres not being particularly great (still the best available at the moment).

Just make sure you find an alignment centre that actually knows what they're doing!

All done and I'm told it's not only running better since they tweaked the carbs/jets for 3 hours but the front end is done, aligned/driving better and not looking too bad either. The colours aren't original but I prefer it this way.....

Other than the paint colours, does anything look amiss?

Hi,

where have you found the brake dustshield?

They look new...or what?

Just to know as I need them and I can't find them anywhere....

Thanks

Cheers

Backing plate or dust shield must have been sandblasted and painted. Trust me, if it was replaced he'd have included it in his invoice! This car does only have 38k on it though......
