Mike, I really like your car,

but on the supplementary instrumentation, I think the place where

the radio normally sits would be a better, one.

And for the radio just use your mediaplayer, with a small

amplifier build behind the instruments.

Or go for the Essex Turbo location on your radio or instruments.

Hi Kylie,

The bucket seats direct the leg away from the central tunnel and there is a gap between the instruments and my leg.

The only fitted retaining screws are in the carpet, so if the location does change then there is no lasting damage.

Oh, by the way, Malcolm came good with the full S350 decal set, which should be with me next week. Thanks for the introduction. :)

Cheers,

Mike S

Yesterday evening saw the collection of the freshly painted front valence - to be installed once everything is up and running. I want to be able to check and rectify any leaks without the need to remove bodywork.....

Decided that I would try and get the engine running today. I had been waiting for the clutch to arrive, but I urgently wanted to seek out any post-build niggles.

The coolant connections were made and the bleed screws removed. 4.5L of 25% coolant mix went in to fill the radiator. Then another 2L before the header tank started to retain its level. Had a good ferret around to check connections before deciding to go for oil pressure. Out with the plug leads and pulse the starter for 20-30 seconds at a time. At this time the ECU itself didn

Minor update.

Fitted the front valence.

I reset the ECU and started from scratch with stored values etc. Car idles nicely with decent oil pressure. Coolant system is bled through - just need a clutch and the gearbox can go back in.

Thanks Danny,

The ECU went off to Blue Streak today - so hopefully we can tick that one off in a few days.

The oil pressure was worrying me, as this is clearly independant of the ECU issue. I

Oil pressure? Oil pressure? We don't need no stinking oil pressure!

Just douse everything with "Slick 50" snake oil, a shot or two of WD40, button it up, and off you go mate.

Just kiddin', Mike. Heck of a problem to surface this late in the game. Since you had pressure initially it sounds almost like some kind of "cavitation" issue. ("cavitation" is a fancy word that people who don't know what the heck they're talking about throw out to appear hip)

Anyway, your setback made for some very interesting pictures---first time I've ever had the priviledge of looking up [from below] at a con rod still attached to a wrist pin in situ. And the view of the rods from each bank where they connect to the crankshaft makes me have to ask if the respective left and right bank cylinder bores are offset slightly (fore to aft) from one another since they (the opposing rods) can't connect at the same exact location on the crank.

Hope your ECU problem (if that's what it is on the start/run issue) gets sorted swiftly. :)

Cheers,

John

Hi Mike,

Sorry but I have a small delay in sending the ECU.

I have picked up a few CEL errors. 0158 and 1101.

0158, high voltage on an O2 sensor I am not too worried about, but the 1101 seems to be a reported as a short of one of the fuel pump relays which is potentially a relay (go figure), wiring or an ECU input error.

Due to the last error I need to run a couple of checks before I can post the ECU to you for you to run your checks. I am really sorry about this and will try and get it all done tomorrow.

I think there is probably a short since my battery is flat and charging but when I turn on the ignition (not starter) the current drawn through the charger rises to about 8Amps.

cheers

-Chris

PS anyone know which O2 sensor relates to 0158?

Did you decide how to deal with your timing belt change?

Cheers,

Mike S

Are you available? :robo:

At the moment, Mike, I'm keeping my head firmly buried in the sand hoping the problem will go away. Denial is a beautiful thing. Actually I'm trying to find time to make an "up close and personal" visit to the actual service department here in Austin to try and get the measure of the home boys' capabilities. It's located a fair bit north of the sales showroom as a stand alone facility. Once I have a one-on-one with the person who would be doing the actual work I hope to arrive at the right decision among less than optimum options. I reeeeeaaaaalllyyy want this job done right the first time.

And tell that slacker Chris to hurry up and send you his ECU stat! I mean, where are that man's priorities anyway? :)

p.s., thanks for the boring pics :)

Cheers,

John

If it is back within two weeks (I'm not that fast with my work -bud you never know ! :) ) -than i can send my up this week.. .

Hi Ross,

This project is nothing like as grand as your V12 transplant. :(

It will be great when you have overcome your current challenges and are able to get some enjoyment from the car.

The building used to be part of a Mill and was used for storage of the animal feed that the Mill produced.

Cheers,

Mike S

Hi Mike,

Sorry I didn't send mine to you sooner but it sounds like you have one in transit now. Let me know if you still need to borrow mine I feel a bit rotten for offering it and then delaying the service. :(

BTW Does anyone know what the current draw should be by the fuel pumps?

cheers

-Chris
