USAndretti42
You can't beat chips cooked in lard, never mind your fancy oils! That's what I thought until I had some chips from a Five Guys on the east coast. Tasted just like English chip shop chips but fried in peanut oil. Yummy! Louise
If you like your chips but doen't want to deep fry them try this: Cut potatoes into chunky chips, bung into a tray with olive oil, sqeeze of lemon and lemon zest. Cover with foil and cook for half an hour on high and then remove foil and cook for another half hour. Very tasty and great with grilled / BBQ fish, steak or salad. As for cooked breakfasts - no reason not to have them. We have one every weekend and I cook everything in the oven instead of fried. Except for the eggs of course, that would just be daft! Paul C
Christ! Just found this donny picture again! I'm two and half stone lighter than that now, thank f***! It's easy for me now, i focus on what fat people eat. Example from only this morning and my reason for posting: I'm in the coffee shop and have ordered a Vente (large size) Americano. I'm thinking 'i might get a flapjack' when a very big lady alongside me orders a Vente Latte and a Pain au Chocolat. This put me off enough to leave with just my coffee. To be honest i took one look and pretty much knew what she would be having, so used am i at spotting this now. Me: One Vente Americano = 23 Calories Total in this visit 23 Calories Big Lady: One Vente Latte = 289 Calories + One Pain au Chocolat = 450 Calories Total in this visit 739 Calories Three years ago i would have had EXACTLY what she had, five days a week. In fact i would have been even worse as i used to have a 40 calorie syrup shot in each Latte, and i had more than one latte a day!!! Just giving up full fat coffee's and pastries five days a week (still beer and curry at the weekend) was worth a thousand calories a day and 2 1/2 stone to me. Fact is, this morning that lady waddled off SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY NINE CALORIES up on me, and it's only half past seven in the morning, Thats to me is just 'thick'. I focus on it being both stupid and disgusting. Over just the five days of the working week thats enough to keep you fat. As i said before on this thread: Watch what the fat people are eating. Worked, and continues to work for me. *all figures taken direct from Starbucks own website.
superdavelotus
Last year I lost over 2.5 stone. I was 16st-8lbs and went down to 14st-2lbs. I've put a bit on since then and I was happy at around 14st-7lbs. Recently I went on an all inclusive for 2 weeks and returned back putting on a stone! This was in June so I've been slowly working it off until two weeks ago when I went on another holiday for 7 days and put 10lbs on I did also have another holiday for a week in July which didn't help but I didn't put as much weight on as then The problem is that I like my food too much and don't want to spoil my holiday watching what I am eating. I have a great time on holiday and look forward to mealtimes as it's all resturant food. On Monday I was 15st-4lbs and soon got back into cutting down again. I used to have cornflakes for breakfast followed by rice crispies for lunch with a normal evening meal. Now I have a large bowl of Fruit & Fibre with skimmed milk 350 cals, Weight Watchers or Nimble toast x 4 for lunch 196cals then a chicken salad or similar for tea. For snacks I have one or two fruit shortcake biscuits which are 37 cals. I try and have a banana or apple. Now and again for a treat I have a cornetto which is 180 cals. Today Iam 14st-12lbs which is 6lbs off already. Looking back at this year, it does look like a yoyo diet but I do try my best to keep it off. If I didn't have these 3 holidays then it would have stayed the same. My goal is to get down to between 14st-2lbs and 14st-7lbs. Iam 38 now but when I met my wife when I was 22, I weighed 15st-0lbs but this was more muscle than the fat I see today. Back then I did look slim. I weighed 16st-7lb when I got married at 26. red vtec
Thought Id join in , I'm currently doing the kellogs 2 week challange, bowl of cereal for 2 meals and then a normal meal for 2 weeks. I'm looking to drop at least half a stone, just to kick start me. I also hit the gym 4 times a week I row 6K, Run for 20, bike for 20 then do weights as I want to get back in shape. I used to row 10K every lunchtime at the gym. I'm about 14 stone at the mo, I want to get down to around 12. Main thing that piles on the pounds is biscuits. I dont drink starbucks and all that Sh7te. also dont really drink a lot of booze. If you booze that is a lot of empty calories. Paul C
I dont drink starbucks and all that Sh7te. Sorry! But i have to pop into one of Oxfords many coffee houses for my cup of tea or coffee before work. Maybe it's just me being sh7te but i like at least one cup of tea or coffee in the morning, if thats still ok??? Have never been to a gym in my life, but i would need to if i had an office job or one where i was not on my feet all day. Maybe my single focus of looking what the fat office workers are grabbing each morning should instead focus on hating the whole shop they are stood in? I can actually see how that could genuinely work as a diet tactic, i feel much the same way about Mcdonalds.

arbell9
This is thread is begining to go down the line of fat people are thick, lazy , stupid, disgusting type line and I would like the mods to review its tone please. By all means poke fun in a friendly way, but its developing a vitreolic tone which is unpleasant. Consider, most people know why they are fat if they are fat, and tbh choose to not do anything about it. The psychology asociated with high fat/sugar cravings is the same as smoking. Its an addiction that has both a phsyical and psychological aspect. I think the original intnetion of the thread was to have people have some space to talk about ways to lose weight and maybe get moral support form others. I dont think it was intended to turn into lets just slag fat people off. Can we get the tone and post back onto topic pls. Be nice to big people they have feelings too. Paul C
But it's entirely 100% on topic: My real life experience of losing a couple of stone and how I have kept from putting it back on, namely by the method of watching what the large people are eating. A way that a forum member lost weight and how they kept it off is very on topic (I think?). My workmate (24st, yes he has a problem) has just got his third latte. I do not think he's thick, but it's enough to put me off them as I see what his intake does to him, and see reflected what I KNOW it would do to me. I understand the craving, when this guy was in his early 20's the bank asked for a medical before giving him a 30 year mortage, but even that has not stopped him, the urge is indeed as you say, Very strong. I don't consider my Father to be an idiot. However a lifetime of sweets hidden under sofa's and in his workshop has rewarded him with being fat and having diabeties. I always assumed that as my mums carer (parkinsons btw) he would be there for her until the end, but his size has offered me the possibility she might be on her own and in need of care. I don't consider Dad or my workmate as being thick, And I'd take their advice on many things (apart from what to eat). It's the process of what they are doing to themselves I find both stupid and repulsive to a degree. Viewing what large people eat with great negativity is What keeps me from putting on weight, and as a method It is on topic and valid. But I do not suggest that someone who makes an unwise food choice is unwise about everything else. For the people who haven't met you, probably best to point out which one of the 3 you are. If you are the one on the left or right, you probably didn't need to go loosing all that weight. But as for that lardy in the middle........ And you'd be right to be thinking Pot & Kettle about now. Katie
I think I'd just like to add that it's al down to personal choices. I made a very focussed and considered positive lifestyle change to lose weight. That was my choice. Then again, there are those people who actively choose to be big, it is their lifestyle choice, and I don't have a problem with that either, nor do I condemn it or consider them stupid. I was big for a very long time, and I certainly don't consider myself to be stupid. Nor do I consider stupid those people who pursue dangerous activities. I guess life is what you choose to make of it. Quote Just because you can, does'nt mean you should.
73JPS
I find, though, that those who make really unhealthy choices (I am thinking more now of substance abuse cases) and are first to be "don't tell me how to live my life, it's my choice, if I wanna do these unhealthy things I can, and leave me alone", are also the first to be the "why isn't anyone helping me?" types who totally strain the health care system once they have got themselves too far gone. I would be alot more comfortable with their "I can do what I want to myself" attitude if they just went and shuffled off quietly without crying to society about how much we need to help them once they screwed themselves. Or maybe I have just seen too much white trash on Jerry Springer! P.S. I had to go here Clicky to determine how stoney everyone was. Including myself. I am currently: 16 stone; also: 1.9 million ass, 2.4 bag (portland cement), 6.26 pud, or 6.99 slug Edited September 18, 2009 by 73JPS Quote "At home, I have a King Sized bed. USAndretti42
I must admit that as the father of a boy with cerebral palsy, it irritates me to distraction when I see a person with a handicapped badge just because they are overweight. Remember all the hoo har about the thin models causing kids to have bad body images and to lead to anorexia? Looking around, the problem wasn't really that widespread. Certainlay didn't affect me. esprithk
OK....let's define "FAT" first... what is your "BODY MASS INDEX"? formula: weight in KG divided by height in METER squared. for example, I am 80KGS / [ 1.73meter X 1.73meter ] = 26.73 the medium is 23 if one is above 23, he/she's fat Edited October 4, 2009 by esprithk
Laura
I think you may be simplifying it a little too much there Eric, BMI does not take in to account muscle mass, age or gender which can significantly affect what a healthy weight is. Also the BMI indicator is not as narrow as 'fat or not' as a guide BMI is normally interpritated something along the lines of: BMI Less than
esprithk
thx, Laura for straighten things up. well, I learn that from local TV news (people here are crazy about losing weight) and the news simply say above 23 should be careful
Katie
Laura, that is a very interesting post, and a valuable addition to the thread. I was told recently by a professor of medicine, a consultant that I had had to visit, not to take too much credance by the BMI calculations. I am supposed to have an implant in my abdomen, thigh or buttock every 6 months. However, the last 3 times have been difficult and traumatic to say the least. After referral by my GP, the professor has said it is now technically impossible for me to continue with the implant medicine, as there is too little body fat on my body to perform the minor surgery involved in getting the implant in. Yet, my BMI is currently 24.3, which is extremely near to the overweight margin. But I have virtually no bodyfat on me. And, according to the print-out I receive when I get weighed at Boots, my BMI range could healthily be between 18 and 24.9. Thus meaning, I could weigh two stones less and be considered healthy. What??? I'd look like a bloody skeleton. The point I am attempting to make, is that in the wrong frame of mind, ie. a very weight conscious teenager, BMI evaluations could encourage excessive weightloss with the understanding of remaining within a normal range. One size cannot possibly fit all. Over the past year, I have had a couple of concerned colleagues ask if I am okay, such is their concern for my slimmer presentation. Yet, according to BMI, I am virtually in the overweight class. I don't get it. Perhaps I do have heavy bones afterall!! Quote Just because you can, does'nt mean you should. Laura
I quite agree, it's a good guide as far as the 'average' person goes (whatever average is) but it shouldn't be an absolute guide, looking in the mirror has a lot going for it too! A body builder for example will show as obese on these charts as they just don't account for how and where some people carry their weight.
esprithk
Katie, same to me, even I am a man. I think it's nothing wrong with my BMI because I have been weighting the same since leaving college. the only thing is the "mass" changes from my chest and back muscle to big belly now....haha. (well, I know I have to lose those fat) but I really have doubt about those number. if I am 1.73meter and I weight like 68kgs, I would be a skinny guy...( I have not weighted under 75kgs since Junior of High school ).... and I did alot of weight lifting and sport back then, so I have very wide shoulder. I cannot imagine to be 68kgs...that will look weird
Simon350S
My BMI classes me as obese...! All joking aside, having started this thread with a desire to loose weight for my wedding and following a promising start, the outcome is I'm still a fat t**t and will still be carrying my obeseness into my wedding photos that will haunt me for the rest of my life hanging from every wall of not only mine but also every memeber of my families houses..... To those who have lost weight, well done. For me, well the word failure as well as fatty springs to mind.....!!!!!! Quote Chunky Lover
73JPS
Well, you could always go for a huge weight gain after the wedding. That way when you and others look at those pics people will say "Remember how slim Simon was back then? He looked so good!"
