Iconic Ride
Congrats, Mark. It's always best to show up at work "less stoned." You can get so much more done! (just kidding) And would one of you blokes be kind enough to educate me on the ratio of stones to pounds? I'm feeling much too lazy today to google it. TIA. Paul C
My workmate (mentioned about eight pages earlier) now tops 25 stone. That means that over 150kg's he is now heavier than me AND my apprentice. He also now exceeds the manufacturer maximum loads for all our step ladders, ladders and portable scaffolds. He is though, despite being almost unemployable, elligable to post in the 'happy with my size' thread elsewhere on the forum. I have known this guy since he was 14 and slim. warnings have gone unheeded, it's been absolutely disgusting to watch. It's not a 'lifestyle choice', it's a fffing mental illness. How can i consider him intelligent any more?
andydclements
It's a gradual thing. I recall when I worked for Sainsburys I once reached 17s 7lbs (245 lb) and that triggered me to loose weight, I went back to cirac 15st 7lbs. Until recently I was comfortable I wouldn't get that heavy again, I was shocked when I weighed in for the challenge at work, I knew I was over weight, but didn't know how heavy I was. I'd have guessed I was about 1 st lighter than I was, [possibly less over weight than that), so I'd have probably reached 19st before I considered myself to be 17st 7lbs. And that's probably how it started out for this guy, you put on a bit and don't care, it's only a couple of lbs, then a few more, few more etc, then you get to the point where it seems that you just cannot loose as much as people (doctors etc) say you need to. ramjet
I think Alex misunderstood me when I posted my thread which has been merged into this one. I would be ok with my weight if it was not for some problems it is causing or having an effect on. I have a problem with a nerve in my left foot between my toes and another problem with the hell on my right foot. Both can be assisted by losing some weight and ultimately surgery on my left foot. Diabetes also exists in my family. Do I want to end up sticking myself with a needle every day? Not bloody likely. I hate the damn things. I'll be posting my numbers tonight (before dinner) and will continue to do so so long as others are in this as well. Maybe we could score our joint weight loss by comparing it to car parts for the fun of it. Imagine if we collectively lost an esprit? andydclements
That's similar to my thoughts. I can struggle to try and make the Esprit more powerful (laws of diminishing returns) or make it lighter (but there's not too much for a road car that I'd want to loose), so the most effective way of altering power to weight ratios is for me to loose weight. There is no attempt at loss though mate. I see his van outside mcdonalds where he gets food for the drive to work. The apprentice let on that he can eat an entire pack of digestives on the way to work, i had to look it up just then and even if it's the smaller pack thats 1175 calories. Then he'll have a latte and a pastry at the coffee shop when he gets to work. The truth is at 8am when we walk away from the coffee shop i'm holding a 50 calorie coffee having had a 300 calorie weetabix breakfast (had to look that up too as i only ever look at calories when discussing what this guy eats), i've had some breakfast and i'm having a coffee, i think thats pretty normal and reeasonable? While walking alongside me he can be at nearly 2000 calories already THAT day, and he will still stop for a break at ten, lunch at one, and he will still go home and have a cooked dinner. And thats what i actually know about, i suspect there is more. You are right though, it's just his routine, but every food choice he makes is always about the worse one he could. Have tried to tackle the subject as i do actually care for the guy although it sounds like mockery here, i talk with his brother all the time, it's very hard to talk about it. He's over ten years younger than me and i'm going to be at his funeral, i don't take any delight in that at all, i don't feel a better person than him. Have told him that people his size don't get to be old, have a look about i say, all the very old folk are thin and middle age finishes off the 25 stone folk, if they are lucky enough to last that far. I don't believe he does not care though, he just can't seem to hang onto an incentive to do something about it. The bank made him get a medical before they would give him a 30 year mortgage, that would have scared the hell out and made me sort my life out of me but not him. If you guys have any real ideas how to approach someone in this state (and it's not easy to do) i am listening.
ramjet
My weigh in: Weight: 93.5kg Body Fat: 29.6% So that's 0.5kg less, but I think more importantly 1.4% drop in body fat. But will wait to see if that is just fluctuation or a trend downwards next Sunday. Best of luck to anyone giving this a go. If anyone wants me to, I'll set up a spreadsheet and record age, height, weight, body fat% (if you have scales that tell you) and will report this and your BMI (body mass index) to you. I will only send personal results to anyone via PM. Let me know if you want me to. We can even set target weights which we can announce on here when you successfully reach it, not what it is. Other options could be to graph your progress against the anonymous group average. Andy, More power makes you go faster for the same weight. True, but it gets real expensive. The only thing that helps with faster braking and cornering with no improvement to anything is less weight. And it costs nothing other than time. Paul C, Get your mate to join up here and get him on this thread with the rest of us. I have a father with diabetes and will also be seeing my younger sister and brother get it as well. Guaranteed. Ultimately, you can't change him. If he's going to do it, it has to be his choice. If he gets to the point of getting a medical scare, it could then be too late. Let's hope not. Jonathan
Good effort. If you're doing phys as well you're putting muscle on. If you were muscly in the past it comes back quicker and esp if you are having a higher protien diet so you can see a lag in weight loss but crucially your body fat is falling. I haven't got a clue what my body fat is ? I assume you calculate that with an electrical charge from the scales - I'm sure I've seen them hand held things that do it but never bothered finding out. ramjet
Yeah the scales do it Jonathon. However, if you look at a lot of stuff nowadays in gyms etc, the biggie is BMI which is simply a calculation involving height and weight. For adult men and women, the calculation is the same. There are heaps of websites which have calculators on them. I've picked up a bunch of physical stuff again after not doing much for about 3 months due to the pain in my left foot. Just putting up with it at the moment. Been into it for two weeks. Am fairly sure I have gone through the weight spike that you get when you first start so am hopefully going to start burning fat off now. Have also simply reduced amount I eat. Still eat the same sort of stuff just less of it. Hope some other people join in with this. Lots of us could afford to be carrying less weight or maybe everyone's happy like Alex. Simon350S
Mines completely unintended mate... Iconic Ride
So no takers... I shall forthwith be a lone crusader in AA. Guess what AA stands for? In keeping with the gratuitous award bestowed by John Heath, there is no prize for guessing the correct answer other than this. AA - Alcoa Inc. Alcoa manufactures aluminum, and I've heard that it's very low fat, with good bulk qualities, yet not too filling. Cooking requires a bit of care, as too high a temp and you have aluminum soup. Baked aluminum is not as tricky, but you still have to mind the time. And aluminum cakes tend to "fall" when you open the oven door. Aluminum omelettes are best done on low heat as well. And never put aluminum in the microwave! I have a really good recipe for Aluminum Burgers with Squirrel Garnish. I can PM it to you if you like. ramjet
Interesting thought John, but I was actually going with Adipose Anonymous. Thought I may as well give the answer as no-one seems to be interested in this thread. Everyone seems really interested in some new car racing thing that's going on with Lotus I think? Not sure. molemot
Since I must outweigh the lot of you....(individually, at least!)...and there seems to be little action on this thread...thought I'd post. Spent my whole life fighting the weight thing, from about 11 onwards. It's a battle you can never win...stop fighting and back it comes again, and you seem to get heavier at the peak of every cycle. My adult weight has ranged from 11:07 stone to 23:07. If I am not getting regular aerobic exercise I get heavier. If I eat more than an average of 1500 calories a day, I get heavier. Now I have the prostate thing it's even worse..the hormone treatment means I am devoid of testosterone so I am effectively a neutered tom, and we all know how big they get, right? Having said all that..I've lost 9lb since Jan 1st; cheered me up a bit when I got on the scales this morning. Not that much as a percentage, as the 23:07 I mentioned above is where I was on 01.01.10. At least I'm below 23 stone! Weight loss is a mind thing...every time I've managed to get lighter and fit it's been because I've had an incentive. Women, joining the Air Force, aircrew medicals...that sort of stuff. This time I have no obvious incentive, so it's a lot harder....but it does seem to be working, and that alone provides the incentive to continue. Every day, every time you get out of bed, battle has to be joined again...or you're sunk. Slow works better than fast...but the real problem is not losing the weight, but staying there afterwards. That's the bit I've never cracked....so far!! Let's hope we all manage to crack it this time round... rogerch
My turn, I was always fairly lucky, 63-65 kilos most of my life untill a traffic accident in 2002 left me with permenant spinal damage, after stopping smoking 2 years ago I ultimatly went up to 80 kilos, then had some cardiac issues last November. I'm now down to 72-73 kilos. I've got myself a swimming coach, to get back into it, I cycle more, and have just taken up kayaking (must get a waterproof camera and post some shots from some kayak trips).
