When I purchased my 89 Carbed Turbo I heard of these nightmares with old fuel lines and connectors. Infact I could almost smell fuel in the cock pit. I replaced one of the hoses then thought what am I doing! Get everything done properly, so all new hoses connectors, stripped carbies back to new again. It was peace of mind. Also installed a 1kg powder unit infront of the passenger seat and now in the V8 also. Better then nothing.

That's a truly tragic sight... I am so sorry for you but thankfully your ok.

Yes, I got my new car, but did not have the chance to take a decent photo of the car as my everyday car (reliable Japanese) was stuck where it was on the driveway...

So my Honda is now repaired, and I can take a photo, and it looks like a sunny day, so I might, or might not, clean the car (as I have discovered, black gets really mucky!), take a couple of pictures, and maybe, post them up...

I know if I dont, Paul may include Pulborough in with his Swindon buddies!

I guess I wasn't the only one that "felt" those pics. Horrifying and leaves me with a profoundly scary feeling. I will be looking for a fire extinguisher for mine. I had my mind made up before seeing your unfortunate loss but now......talk about a renewed sense of urgency.

You know how you see some things that you wish you hadn't seen and you can't get the images out of your mind. Your incident with your car was that traumatic. Person injury would be the only way that could have been worse.

Just picked up on this thread....God what a terrible thing to have happen.

Carb owners check your fuel system before and after every run !!!!

As well as the hoses check the carbs too. Get a paper towel and wipe the underside of each carb if you get fuel on the towel don't drive it until you find out why. DO NOT convince yourself it will be OK. Also check that you have no fuel seepage around the top covers. Make sure all the screws are nipped up tight. Also check the banjo fittings. Check all the hose clamps are tight, but don't over tighten them as you can cut into the fuel line.

It is perhaps advisable to change all the fuel lines and the banjo washers every couple of years.
