greentengu
In reference to the previous page's pictures of the roof-mounted antennas on the Esprits, as the pictures were taken in 1983, would it have been possible that the antenna were actually car phone antenna (remember those?)? I recall in '84 my father had an (utterly extravagant) "Scott Communications Motorola Car Phone" to match his "brick" style "mobile phone"--although the antenna in the pictures here do not resemble what I remember his car phone antenna looked like. Just a thought. Cheers, Scott 1 Quote 1986 Esprit HCI (Bosch-injected)

stephenwhyte
Great find!!! Notice the ride height especially at the front of the Essex Esprit - looks rather higher than any other Essex I've seen before. Interesting it's a LHD with a British plate

The Pits
Not sure what I'm more shocked by, the ride height or the name 'Lotus Esprit Turbo' - pah! - Lotus didn't start making those until 1988!

ChrisJ
@The Pits "Turbo Esprit" is what I thought as well ... but check out the wording under the car . Also says Esprit Turbo on my V5.
LOTUSMAN33
Still available as just been in contact, he wants around £50k for it so I have questioned the provenance. Think eBay have removed it for some reason? http://www.manorclassiccars.com/vehicles-for-sale/ I may call Andy Graham to see if he recognises it in the morning. Dave Quote Do or do not, there is no try!
The Pits
It is entirely lovely and even at £50k still a lot less than many pay for old Escorts these days but there was a practically delivery mileage one that went into auction not too long ago, I thought it made £20-something-k. If it's just a decal and blue paint that's a pretty speculative price. The original wouldn't have have leather interior either surely? I love the remark in the ad about it being 'graced' by Colin Chapman, Nigel Mansell, Mario Andretti, Elio de Angelis... 'thrashed' would be a more accurate term I would imagine!
LOTUSMAN33
Just been in contact and it has had one owner which was part of the Essex group, he is sending me some more info and pics so will keep you posted on what I find. ChrisJ
Was for sale at Bonhams - Lots more blurb about the history http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/18213/lot/337/ Didn't have leather then.
LOTUSMAN33
Great find and better priced, I put the car at £35k tops to the seller. What did it reach with Bonhams and how old was that auction? Guess it was silver striped.. Still love it ? Dave Quote Do or do not, there is no try! nello
OPW 674W was numbered 002 Essex of the LHD cars and was one of the two cars sold direct to Thiemes Organisation Essex Motorsport. On my list its believed to still be in France along with the other 'Essex' registered car - LHD 007 which was Thiemes own car. Its does look like its riding very tall though doesn't it? Clive Chapman told us once he has a few of those jackets in the attic at East Carleton! Edited September 2, 2016 by nello
