mayevora 1,360
How old does fuel have to be to 'go off' as such? eg - fuel kept in a Jerry Can in the garage. How long will this keep for? a week, a month, a year? If it does 'go off' in time, is there any way of telling? After what period of time would you not use it? Paul C 15
I know the shell optimax octane degraded in storage, hence the exact octane was never quoted, just 'circa'. Not know if thats true of all petrol though.
arbell9 21
I found this on the web: How long does fuel last? This is an important question when you
Laura 20
There was a similar discussion a while ago about this, have a look here for more suggestions: http://www.lotusespritforum.com/forums/ind...ic=23382&hl
Whippet 0
Ah, but what about diesel? Any info on diesel?
Dave Freeman 23
Interesting topic but with the espprit fuel does not last long enough. Not sure why the question as I am alway concerned about storing fuel. Last time I stored fuel and used it for lighting a Bon fire I nearly killed myself. If you have an old can full then I would dispose of it legally. So it's no good for lighting fires, and it may hurt your engine, easy call really. Simples
Paul C 15
Here's an interesting true story, members name kept secret: A member of this forum (no it's not me!) filled his Esprit up with Diesel by mistake. He drained the tanks and was left with two large plastic containers full of a rather useless mix of pertrol and diesel. What to do with them? In what he described to me as 'a moment of panic', he buried them... ...in his own back garden.
